There are plenty of British players who have aced La Liga. Beckham, Owen, Trippier, Woodgate, Pennant. The list goes on.

Perhaps he saw how his mate Aaron Ramsey fared up here, or any of the other washed-up ex-Prem players who have come up to Scotland expecting to be Billy Big Baws left with their tail between their legs because they couldn't hack it.
He'd have enjoyed the golf though.
