Transfers

Have to say I disagree with you. We signed Wober much earlier than we normally do in the Jan window. Rutter should sign today, so that would be 2 within 12 days of a 31 day window. That's pretty good for a club that leaves it until the final day and then falls on its face. We still 3 weeks to add a Klich replacement and hopefully a LB so that Wober can actually play in his best position.

Only slight criticism with the recruitment is that ALL of the players we sign, are players most of us have never heard of. Apart from Rodrigo, I can't remember the last time we signed a player from a team most people know of. We ain't big/rich enough to sign players from rival prem teams which isn't really a criticism, but we should be able to nab players from Brentford, Forest and co imo.

Do you read up on and check the stats on the success/failure rates of other clubs? I think that would give your post more credence. I suspect we have good and bad signings like all. Prem sides churn through players each year, have done for years and many players of all nationalities come with reputations/price tags then disappear into obscurity of the championship or back to where they came from.

JKA fiasco was just that - no defending that, huge and costly bit of business. Dan James - I actually thought he'd be an okay signing and improve the team - but agree we massively overpaid for him.

Personally i'm a simple fan. We spent too many years in the lower leagues, although i did enjoy a lot of the footy during that period bizarrely. Current ownership managed to secure us into the prem and we're still there. They're bringing in players for price tags we'd only dream of 5 years ago - some won't prove to be value, you'll always have that - but they do seem to be having a go at keeping us up. Footy for sure not as good as it was under Marcelo, but then this time last year it was suicide stuff, we needed to change in my view.

I don't think everything is that bad and I certainly don't think we're the only set of fans who could catalogue bad and waste of money signings over the years .... Jonty .....

I don't think this window is one of inactivity. I have read several reports that raise concerns about the Rutter transfer and am not holding my breath especially given our past record and the spin that seems to come out of Thorpe Arch.
Part of me worries about what ifs, what if we go down, the wage bill looks horrendous. I hope they factor that in.

If we sign a striker and Wober thats more than we usually do in January and Id be fairly pleased with that. Do think we need a midfielder as well, not fully convinced with Roca.

Regarding payments of transfers (structured) I think you will find most clubs do this now - its part and parcel of the modern game.

I'm not fully convinced with this Rutter deal but he will have my full support when he signs like ever other signing we make. I hope he proves everyone wrong.

....That's the nub of the problem for me that quite a percentage of Leeds fans are experiencing similiar 'what if's' thoughts.

In our third season back, we shouldn't be - on balance, it is indicative of a transfer policy that is below par.

Firstly, I'm not saying its a window of inactivity, just signing Wober is more that we've done in a Jan since I can remember.

What I;'m saying is that based on past transfer sags's I'm not holding my breath on Rutter and giving some reason why transfers for us from Germany might be harder than for other clubs.

And not saying clubs don't back load transfers, but I think we don't do it the right way.

Lots of talk about AR trying to get away with paying less at last minute for original Dan James transfer.

JKA deal stupidly structured to try and make it cheap to get him.

When you've not really got the money, this is how you do things.

Wonder how difficult it is to get transfers over the line when the major share holder now is not the one who will be the major share holder for most of the life of a player's contract.

We lost Klich and Forshaw isn't able to go longer than 3 games without being injured and Gyabi looks a prospect but not ready for Prem yet, I do feel we need another central midfielder. Been linked to 3 of them recently; Lukic, Fofana and Onuhai.

As for outgoings ,Geldhart and Hjelde look set to go on loan with Cresswell coming back.

Shaun, Marsch said he has enough within squad without needing replacement for Klich, indeed he used Wober as replacement for Klich on Sunday.

Looks like Rutter could be confirmed as early as today.

And that the young kid Hall, could be coming in but later in the window.

If that happens, and thats a big if, id be delighted with the window.

I dont know how good Rutter will turn out but in terms of intention and size of transfer, its a massive change from other Januaries and really hope it works out.

We've all been screaming "sign an LB and striker"
and please use the January transfer window to help
the team survive.

It was only part of one half, but I thought Wober looked
good. And he was playing in his third best position.
He covers LB & LCB. That alone makes this window a
success, set against previous windows.

If we sign Rutter (and Hall), striker has been added
to also. I haven't seen either one play outside of
YouTube videos. But, both positions have been added
to - even if none of the three were household names.

Then add to that, we might be in for Azzedine Ounahi.
This could well be CDK MkII runaround. Or, the club
has actually learned. We'll see on this one.

There's also that goalkeeper from Belgium, Senne
Lammens. Looks like he's signing (Does that mean
Mes is being sold?).

The whole "where the fck did this money appear from?"
questions are quite rightly being asked though.

Basically, this January window looks a lot different
to previous windows in a good way. Yes, some of the
same old same, old happening too. Overall, not bad.

And I think Cresswell's being recalled from Millwall
to be sent back out to another Championship team.
One that will give him more playing time.

Marsch was complaining about this yet he let Summerville stay on after the injury.

Summerville looked a different player after that tackle which was a good tackle tbf. Suprised he left him on so long.

I’m pretty certain the the medical team and the player will have had a big say in Summerville staying on the pitch.

Do we really think a manager, stood on the touchline, decides to keep player on the pitch against medical advice?

Summerville was left on for another 25 minutes and went on to foul Cardiff player, one wonders how much of injury could be attributed that that foul he dished out as well.

Should have maybe let him try and run it off but at very worst, sub him at half time.

I cant but have doubts about wober, Looked a centre half all day long, when he came on. It aint going to be a raiding full back thats for sure.

Not writing him off, just saying it how I see it. Good chance he will end up at centre half.

Hi Career is funny one too

Doesnt play many games for Rapid Vienna, but gets a big transfer to Ajax

After a year and half he gets another big money move to Sevilla, on a loan to buy.

After just six months, he gets another big money move to Red Bull.

Four big transfers at 24, is strange.

Hopefully be like Rafa, and just needs to settle somewhere(which he kind of did at redbull)

Re: Wober - There's an interview with an Austrian Footy journalist somewhere on Youtube that rather concerned me, and the couple of bits that really made me sit up and take note were a) looks good in Austrian league but was a suspect in Champions League outings and b) suffered several injuries.

How was Saiz doing for clubs at that age?

Can only have fingers crossed for him, is a big step up and an anxious environment amongst fans at moment with a team that is not quite working.

It was an easy game for Wober to look good. We were on the ascendancy and part of it was against 10 men.
Let’s see how he does at centre back for 90 minutes with the opposition cutting through our soft areas before we get any early indication of his future worth.
