ENIC do not have an elite mentality nor a winners mentality, it has filtered down throughout the whole club and even into large sections of the fanbase.

The club desperately needs a major reset from the top down, that means new owners who will come in and break this cycle of mediocrity.

Some of our fans are part of the problem, they have been abused by ENIC for so long now, they have started to think like ENIC, and are completely oblivious that things could and should operate at a higher level.

Too many fans are accepting of mediocrity and take a ridiculous satisfaction in a healthy balance sheet, to them that is success, because that is the spiel that Levy feeds them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly this.

I will never accept it.

Enic out

I think the main difference between the other top five is even when they haven't been at the top, they still manage to pick up the odd trophy, which you would have expected Spurs to do with some of the teams they have had.

Although the problem is when you're trying to compete with the teams at the top, CL qualification kind of becomes more important than winning a domestic cup.

Nah, that is the reality of financially doped english football in the 21st century.

It simply is not that easy to win trophies, unless you are bankrolled by State or a Russian Oligarch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And Spurs of course made all their money through the club and no investment right

So what is the point of Spurs existence then, if we can't compete to win anything, we may as well all pack up and go for a shiete instead. Under ENIC, Spurs are about as meh as it gets, which is why we desperately need new owners.

With all due respect you weren't one of the big six for a majority of the 00s. You only finished top six a couple of times that decade.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tottenham has always been a "member" of Top 6 clubs in England, winning things or not.

That's common knowledge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

so who are those clubs then? Everton have to be one
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. Everton were one of the "founder" clubs.

Traditional established clubs were:

Liverpool
Man Utd
Arsenal
Tottenham
Everton

Then alone came along Chelsea, then Man City and built their history and status.

Don, both City and Chelsea are financially doped, so they don't count. The other three are considered the three biggest clubs in the country.

So what exactly is your point. Spurs are clearly the best of the rest in the country.

I notice you haven't put up Newcastle's 21st century haul, or any other club for that matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Traditional Top 6 clubs Sandy. Keep up mate. Chelsea and City do count, or is that because it makes Spurs look even more incompetent. Even if you take them both out, it’s still embarrassing. Liverpool, United and Arsenal trophies totally dwarfs ours after ENIC. The point is that Levy and ENIC have turned this club into ultimate losers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy's got a point though, Don. Neither of those two would've been considered top 6 when ENIC took over. Definitely least not in terms of trophy count nor in terms of support. Both Villa and Everton would've been ahead of them, and probably Newcastle too.

Since then, we've seen Villa inhabit the second division and Everton have struggled way more than Spurs. It's also worth noting that both of those clubs at different points have made big investments to try to push for a place at the top table, and it's gone pretty pear-shaped.

Just a bit of perspective. Not saying it's all rosy, but it could be worse mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone knows that City and Chelsea have purchased their trophies with their sugar daddies. Big probability that one, if not both, would have been up and down from the championship to the Prem for most of the 21st century if not for their lottery wins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it is what it is. In all likelihood, and regardless of what many might say in advance, the vast majority of Spurs fans would eventually accept whoever took over if they brought mountains of cash with them. Fans of other clubs can say whatever they like about the hollowness of trophies, I'm sure Chelsea and City fans would rather have them in the cabinet than not. It's been the case everywhere it's happened, and there's no reason whatsoever to believe Spurs would be any different.

That wasn't my point though.

My point was that landing an investor like that is no different to winning a Golden Ticket. It's not like Chelsea, City, PSG or Newcastle landed those deals after years of marketing themselves magnificently. It was the pure fluke of being in the right place at the right time.

Once you accept that as a fluke, you've got to look beyond them and take a look at the clubs in a comparable situation to theirs and yours in terms of history, support and prestige at the time of the ENIC takeover.

It's been a barren period sure enough, but when you look at the past twenty-odd years at Everton, Newcastle and Villa, it's quite clear that things could have been much worse for Spurs than they have been.

Billy, you could say that for 95 per cent of the football pyramid, all of whom have next to no chance of winning a trophy. You could ask what is the point of their existence?

Ridiculous isn't it Don. Even Arsenal whose fans have spent much of that time bemoaning the state of their club, have got into almost double figures for trophies. No other team underachieves like this, apart from maybe the Tottenham of internationals - England.

They were one of the founder clubs of the PL, and also one of the key architects of the changes to the financial rules in the eighties. There was plenty of football before that time though.

Admittedly, it does make it slightly amusing when they complain about owners at clubs like Chelsea or City though. Frankenstein’s monster and all that…

Wigan Athletic (+1)
Middlesbrough (+1)
Blackburn Rovers (+1)

Well done Spurs, that's your level. All behind Leicester City on (+2).

That just makes it worse then doesn't it? The fact all those teams aren't even good enough to be in the PL anymore, let alone in the top 4/5/6 of the PL like us, and yet still have as many trophies in the ENIC era.

So it's their fault that City are owned by a corrupt oppressive human rights abusing regime? Even Melts isn't immune to these rationalizations by City fans.

If Liverpool ever got bought by similar owners, God help me that I accept reality rather than go about coming out with rationalisations to subliminally justify it.
