Kane staying?

It's irrelevant really, Kane or no Kane we just aren't going in the right direction at all, we need major surgery

Find it hard to believe really. Surely he has sort of ambition to win things before his career ends?
Seems like another le tissier if he decides to stay, knowing he has little chance of a trophy

No, he is now becoming our past. Like poch let's leave him there where he belongs and move forwards

Maybe Kane has heard who the next manager is

I hope I am wrong but this is probably just the club trying to quash the rumours about Kane not wanting to sign a new contract and likely leaving this summer.

They won`t want all this unsettling the team until the end of the season, so have moved to nip it in the bud.

Whether he stays or goes is probably all still up in the air, depending on what transpires between now and next summer.

Obviously, I would love it if he signs and finishes his career with Spurs.

I suspect the if is rather large.

I don't think so. By keeping his name in the public eye like this, you keep the debate rumbling on. It won't stop the speculation until he actually signs. If the whole point is to stop anything destabilising the club, it doesn't make sense. Us, the fans, had half accepted that he'd want to move on and most of us would have wished him well so if they were to sell him this summer, there wouldn't have been a mutiny because as much as we hate Levy, we still love Kane. Whatever Kane's real plans are, they'll be well known to the dressing room. If he's planning on going, they'll already know it, no question.

I could be wrong. If he does still go I think the outcome of this season defines it. Win the FA Cup and he stays. Qualify for the CL, he stays. Miss out on both and see Man U qualify in our place and I think the question comes up again. He might think about moving there then.

Like you say, being open to signing a new deal isn't actually signing a new deal. That said, this is better news than we thought was possible. At least it's a glimmer of hope, even if it's a false dawn.

So let me get this straight. You'd rather we sell Kane, considered to be our only genuinely world class player, for relative peanuts at 29 years of age than get him on a new contract at which point it'll mean another 4-5 years of service by the greatest striker we've ever had PLUS, should he be sold, the new contract would mean premium price. You'd rather choose the former? Am I hearing that right?

To use a well known phrase on here that I KNOW you're very, very familiar with, 'sock', if that is your true username - give your head a wobble.

I'd be amazed if he did...

Surely he's let levy/ENIC let him enough by now.

Only way I can see him staying is if we somehow get top 4, Conte signs a new deal and a new high quality defence and keeper is bought in this summer.

So there's no way I can see him staying...and who can blame him?

He’d be nuts to sign a new contract.

Still think he’ll be playing for United next season

When he sees Newcastle lifting the League Cup after beating us in the final, and they come in with a huge salary offer he’ll be off their for their title push next season.

Its the club trying to squash the "rumors" from the previous week.

Poch might be the only guy capable of keeping Kane, having a history together helps but surely, it's become evident to Kane that hiring managers with "winning track records" doesn't work at Spurs (Thanks to Levy)... Might as well hire a manager who can actually make the players he has better. Can't imagine it's been much fun for Kane etc playing in a system with no midfield (PEH is carthorse), no creativity and playing 3 CBs with wingbacks who can't cross (what are we paying Conte 15mln a year for ????)

As much as I want to see it, I don't think that would make him sign a new deal. He needs to win now and he knows the last time Poch was here it took a few years to build that side, years he doesn't really have.

It's more likely that he'll want Conte to stay in order to sign a new deal.

As far as I'm concerned, if those are the terms of any new deal, I'm not interested. I'd rather see Conte and his destructive, horrible, divisive football and management style gone more than I care about Kane leaving. Players come and go and they shouldn't be dictating who comes in as manager anyway.

I am a little bit fed up of this narrative that both Conte and Kane are doing us a favour. Conte certainly isn't but equally if Kane feels like he's above us in some way or we're holding him back then he can eff off. I don't want another summer of disharmony with a will he / won't he saga. It's really bad PR for the club.

Kane is 31 next year. Who is taking him? Used to be pretty decent back in the day and was regularly top of the PL scoring charts. Now he is 10 goals behind the leading PL goalscorer and only has one assist to his name.

Not sure if you've heard but there is no Project Conte.... Needs to sign a contract beyond the next 4 months for there to be a project..... What we have right now is more "holiday Conte"

Are his kids of school age yet? These are the things that we don't consider when discussing whether he'd move on or not. If they're in school and happy that changes things a lot.

I've just had a look - 2, 4 and 6 years old. It's only primary school but one is already in and another is about to start. Maybe he doesn't want the upheaval of a move to Manchester destabilising his kids at such a vital age.
