I’d swap Smalling for Blind. Smalling was a much better player for us than Blind was. Blind was overrated by United fans, he didn’t really do much aside from that short lived partnership where Smalling was the superior player.

This. Bit of a jack of all trades master of none type player. Decent technically but not good enough physically to be a top player. I'm surprised he went to Bayern.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Had we got a manager that would have built upon the possession style that LVG wanted to implement he may have had a better career with us. Was never going to be a Mourinho player. I think he’s improved at Ajax, and Bayern needed an emergency defender so he could probably do a job there.

ah yes callum with the 1 goal in 15 appearances or whatever it is this year

Kos - was the best CB in the league at one point

was never, ever the case.

bloodred, I don’t think he was especially bad. But he was brought in as a midfielder and left back, struggled in those positions, and had a purple patch at cb. I agree he wasn’t a weak link, but United fans did, and still do, bang on about how intelligent he was and how underrated he was - I don’t think his performances for us fit with how many describe him. He was just an average squad player.

Didn’t he get subbed off at ht in disgrace the other day?

posted on 27/1/23

Not sure about disgrace but definitely hauled off.

Hudson odoi has always been decent enough at some things, but he's not good/great at anything.

Not sure why the love in from the resident weirdo

I never ever rated him, had torrid times and made mistake after mistake against chelsea.
But each to their own. I thought he summed up what was wrong with arsenal at the time. Flattered to deceieve.

That bloke is amazing. There’s a bit of TCP about him.

Don't disagree with your XI Nick. Might have Ramires over Wise on account of him being more underrated (IMO) and maybe Eto'o over Ba but not fussy with that one

Cudicini - I think people see him as a second tier type of keeper, but imo there wasn't much difference between him and a de gea. He was fantastic for us in the early 2000's.
------------------------------------------------------
Purely in terms of shot stopping, De Gea between 2013-2018'ish is the only keeper in the PL who's been better than Cudicini was for us between 2001-03.

Perhaps the most telling testament to how good he was is the fact in 2003 we were being linked with players for every position except a keeper. Was just recognized fact that Cudicini couldn't be significantly improved.

the only issue was he was just a bit too short for gk for a title challenging team

Cuducini wasn’t even the best shot stopper in the prem in those years. It was comfortably Shay Given.

Cucucini and Shay Given are really underrated. People forget how good they were.

He was an animal though.

Scored key goals as well.

Hazard got him the one time at the Bridge, but apart from that he dealt with Chelsea pretty well.

ah that old myth, I remember people trying to give Shay so much credit then to scupper any cudicini praise.

Classic.

Shay couldnt lace cudicini's boots.

Nick is so defensive Conte and Mourinho are in awe of him.

posted on 27/1/23

It’s not a myth. He was a much better shot stopper. De Gea is the only keeper with better reflexes in prem history. Their issues were always their all round game, which is a different debate.

Jesper Olsen was United's number 11 when I started watching them, so I guess it's him

Nope.

Brilliant shot stopper don't get me wrong, but Cudicini was better.

Would be difficult with those gloves on tbf

Tbf Cudicini gifted us a fair few points while Given was always was excellent - so I have a soft spot for Cuds.

The Henry one (which I can remember) was during 2003-04, his form trailed off slightly that year.

Then we bought Cech & that keeper we had for those two seasons was never seen again
