Lower end of the spectrum, Fiesta is hard to beat
When I first got with the missus, she had a Hyundai Ghetts. Absolutely awful car, but it was so awful/worthless at this point (think she picked it up for £500 at the time), that it actually became quite fun to drive around.
I think the stripped back, sheer lack of safety, almost made it a bit of a thrill, like driving around in an oversized go kart.
I had a Volvo XC40 at the time (wonderful, wonderful car), and the juxtaposition was amazing
Getting rid of my polo was a bit of a wrench. Brilliant little runner. Heard great things about fiestas from friends too actually.
Fiesta the second car I drove after passing my test, was excellent. As you say, smoothe fear changes (despite my driving) and reliable as can be.
Worst car I’ve driven was a Corsa with a semi auto gearbox, and my first car was a Toyota Aygo which wasn’t much better either.
It outlasted the magazine 🤭

My son has one. I had one as a courtesy car whilst my motor was having work done.
I got to say, I really don’t like them to drive, and I found it wanting in the fuel economy stakes.

They’re still the most sold car in the UK, Ford have decided to focus on the Puma now which is more of an SUV. It’s so ugly.
I have one now....love it.
But it is the only car I've ever owned so nowt to compare it too.
First car was an old original VW Beetle - bloody loved it. Absolute classic. Paid £270 for it in 1984. Went to loads of away games in it, but bits gradually started falling off it (literally) and I had to scrap it after 18 months or so. Got £50 if I remember.
Mate had an orange Fiesta. No soul like a Beetle though

Would 100% recommend. Incredibly smooth drive, build quality is brilliant, and holds its speed really well (70/80 feels like 30).
There are a lot of variants, we had the T5 plug in hybrid, and it automatically recharges its battery when breaking or coasting, which is nifty.
Boot is huge and you can lift the floor up for even more space, and I think it has the highest safety rating available under the current system (a lot of SUVs do, in fairness).
I was going to trade it in for a Jaguar F Pace or I Pace and was reliably informed by the dealers/various reviews that the XC40 is the better car, despite being cheaper.
Only reason we got rid is because we’re planning another nipper (which will land us at 3) and I’m terrified of flying, despite having to fly multiple times a year for work, so I like to drive when we go on holiday. All that meant I fancied a seven seater for the space, particularly so the kids could zone out with an iPad or something on those long drives into France/Spain.
That put us between the Discovery Sport and the XC90, but such is the build/drive quality throughout the Volvo range, we went with the 90!

Volvo’s are the safest cars to drive out of all its competitors. My dad has an XC90 and it’s pure luxury, stick with the Volvo.
I have a Clio RS, its fierce rival is the Fiesta ST and pretty much every article tips that as being better than the Clio. Fiesta's are Iconic little cars, had a few mates have them back in early 2000's. Never had a ford myself.
My dad had a fiesta, had almost 190,000 miles on it when he finally packed in driving, they go forever them things
Most robust engines you'll ever see. Will be missed.
the coming and going of Ford cars in the UK is part of the passage of life. Corsair, Cortina, Granada, Capri, Escort, Sierra... now Fiesta.

Bring back the Mondeo!
From 1972 to 2020 a Ford was the best selling car in the UK. The most recent 12 of those years was the Fiesta.
Shame how the small car is being killed off in favour of big, ugly inefficient crossovers.
I have a blue Mk7 ST3.
It's a bit dated on the inside but a wonderful car to drive and I think it's better looking than the Mk8.
