Why Chelsea’s obscene January spending is just the start
You missed a word.
Always laughed at fans thinking it was the end of Chelsea. Basic math and the public terms of the contract made it clear they were going to spend big.
I won't lie even I'm surprised how big they've gone but you don't spend that big without knowing what u can get away with spending.
They've changed the rules to stop smaller clubs taking such high risks, where they don't have the financial backing if it all goes wrong. That's the right call but it isn't because Chelsea have done anything wrong, just that it's a model that isn't sustainable for most clubs.
As a Liverpool fan it's hard not to be jealous when u see Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal spend what Klopps net spend has been in the last 5 years, just since the summer.
Spurs fans hate Levy and Enic and they've even spent more. West ham etc shouldn't be out spending Liverpool. Why FSG don't get the criticism of other owners I've no idea. I think the success has masked the cracks and even if they do back Klopp big in the summer, seeing rivals reinforce must frustrate klopp.
Liverpool are mistake spenders but that isn't sustainable at the top end of the table long term, especially with so many top teams now. Chelsea, City, Newcastle, Spurs, Arsenal and United.
Last season Spurs, United and Arsenal constantly threw away cementing top 4 but it isn't the same this year.
This summer id also expect City and Chelsea to reinforce massively as they've dropped off this season. Liverpool need fresh investment ASAP or the fall off could be dramatic.

They will whenever Klopp leaves. Your fans will then realize just how dependant on a world class manager that moneyball model is (if you want to be seen as a super club).
Having a world class manager ties everything together. If we had Klopp I doubt we'd have invested this heavily over the last two windows because we wouldn't have needed too.

Chelsea might have deep enough pockets to continue spending in this way, but their FFP position will likely prevent it, especially if they miss out on UCL which is very likely.
They are a club who barely record a profit any way, so to add such long term cost to the club without off-setting it with sales and massively increased revenues will only see them plunge further into losses, which are limited to £60m over 3 years.
