Liverpool will drop plenty if points, but so will we. I think the Newcastle bubble has burst so am not too concerned about them.

Think something like 65 points provably gets 4th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

65 points doesnt even match our form so far this season. I think we will improve form during the run-in, not least because i think our fixtures have eased slightly and we have a bit more of a game face on. Yes the occasional blip is inevitable, like Leicester.

Where's that clown with numbers in his username, bin dipper gone?

Right here. We were poor, Madrid were excellent, and Spurs still haven't won a trophy since 2008. 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mid table
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Come back when you've won a trophy this side of 2010 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Come back when your not sitting in mid table and falling faster than an avalanche.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've been falling since we broke you in 2019. We've completed football. You've completed the prestigious New Stadium and Audi Cup double.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Better get to school now, run along!

In all seriousness, this is probably the reality check that some LFC fans needed.

They have had issues this season otherwise they wouldnt be mid table and being comfortably beaten by the likes of Wolves BHA Brentford. Those issues are more than just "LFC aint firing yet" because they having to chop and change in midfield to try and find a balance, their defence is being repeatedly exposed, and their attacking lineup is far from settled and a mile away from the well-oiled machine of previous seasons.

For these reasons it has never, in my mind, been a given that LFC can just click back into winning form and beating a crap Everton at Anfield (which they always do) and NUFC who actually matched LFC even with 10 men, did not convince me otherwise. Yes it is possible but i dont think when there are so many issues - form, injury, individual errors, lack of balance, players not at their peak - that it will be that easy.

Real Madrid highlighted so many of their issues last night and not least their Boom or Bust tactics. As Owen said at half time, when it works boy does it work but it is high risk and when they get caught out, it is often costly, especially when they aint in great form.

I mentioned the other day on here that LFCs strength in previous seasons was their utter confidence and the oppositions fear. Sometimes it seemed LFC had won the game before they'd even stepped on the pitch. Now their weaknesses are being laid bare and teams are far less fearful of attacking these and LFCs confidence looks fragile.

This result may galvanise them, it may give them focus, a re-set. But it will also, without fail, do nothing to improve their confidence. Will be interesting to see if the mentality monsters still have it or not and if they do then fair play to them.

From a Spurs point of view i hope we make it a challenge for them, dont just make it easy for them with poor results but really make them beat us and not hand it to them. If we do that and LFC surpass us to 4th them well done them. Right now, it is not a given that either team will go on a mental winning run, but Spurs are just as well placed to do so and should, IMO, be favourites for top 4 ahead of LFC and Newcastle.

Can't argue with that. Mane and currently Diaz are a huge loss and too many players with question marks atm.

Just amazes me though how some so called Spurs supporters praise everything Liverpool do, and absolutely find fault with everything Spurs do.

Very strange.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed Sandy. This blind constant free pass that everyone keeps giving this team IS strange. I called it in the other recent "top 4" post, saying I just can't understand why everyone, after beating a really poor Everton and 10 man Newcastle who are running out of steam anyway, are back to the team we all saw over the last couple of years.....they are not, simple as. Dodgy defence, aging midfield and not even one of the top 3 attacks in the PL.
Thought it hilarious the free pass the pundits gave them last night, including the host asking them "well, can they do it in the second leg ?? Crouch looked at him like "what the fack is this bloke talking about"
Then there is McNulty today giving them a relatively easy match report. I can remember the damning report he gave Spurs after being beaten 2-4 by Bacca. The Bacca in their prime. Going as far as saying Spurs shouldn't be in the CL.
Yeah, the whole thing is very strange.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeh that was a nonsense, saying Liverpool can still get back into it. They would have to win 4-0 away, which given their away form this season is laughable. More likely they will take another drubbing, I wouldn`t be surprised if Madrid put another five past them 2nd leg.

Spurs would have absolutely been crucified by the media had they lost 5-2 at home, after being 2-0 up. Liverpool get an absolute free ride from the pundits.

Oh zero chance are Liverpool going through. Not even up for debate. Madrid are in the next round.

Can someone please explain to me how Liverpool have been given a free ride?

Headlines / opening comments in the papers this morning:

"Kop in meltdown as they suffer worst Euro night..."

"Liverpool got a roasting last night.."

"A total surrender"

"Ripped to shreds - Reds suffer worst ever home defeat in Europe"

"Humiliation"

"Brutal demolition leaves overrun Liverpool clutching at straws"

Nah, I prefer Pidier's simple but effective "Jurgen Klopp more like Jurgen Flopp"

He was on match thread yesterday claiming Liverpool “Spursed it up”. The guys obsessed with us. Just remind him they are mid table

Yeah, he’s not a Liverpool fan.

Imagine how poor Varpool would be if they were not immune from red cards, not allowed to use asthma medication as a performance enhancer and not allowed to cynically stop counter attacks punishment free.
