It's a trophy and that's about all there is to say about it.

I mean we all remember Utd fans unfurling banners saying it was a mickey mouse competition so...

I think the disregard most teams give it until around the semi finals shows that winning it isn't indicative of the level your club is realistically at, but it's fun to win and if you do happen to be on an upward trajectory like both of yesterdays teams seem to be, then it certainly acts as reaffirmation of that and builds the feel good factor around the club.

Agree with this take.

Yeah this has it about right.

I really ought to know better than to bite on an article that has both “Prestige” and “Culer” in it.

I’ve let myself down. Badly.

Same people who want to prove its significance when their team wins it are often the same people sh’tting all over it when a team they don’t like wins it. No credibility for posts like this unless you back it up.

I’ve always said it’s worth winning as it adds to the cabinet and breeds confidence as it’s a mid-season trophy but it’s nothing special or something to brag about IMO.

The constant name and branding changes and don’t help it’s prestige, makes it feel like one of those pre-season tournaments. It should just be called the League Cup and have some accompanying bonus attached to winning it, like how the Europa gets you into CL.

The general rule of thumb is some fans will call it meaningless / Mickey Mouse etc. if their rivals win it, and then revert to celebrating if their team wins it… and then sensible fans will be consistent in their view, regardless of who wins it.

We can all decide which group individuals fall into, and anyone labelling an entire fan base in this regard is an idiot.

If a trophy that is older than the EPL and UCL combined isn't prestigious enough for some of our own 'fans' then I suggest they go and support City.

Pathetic.

See you're talking nonsense there. Since 1992 we've had:

Carling Premiership
Carling Premier League
The Premiership
Barclaycard Premiership
Barclays Premier League

Of course it’s a major trophy, the winner qualifies to play in Europe!

Did people other than Newcastle fans really have meltdowns over this? It's the league cup where the majority of teams play youth and second string XIs these days until the latter stages. It's why City have been so successful with it in recent years.

Look, it's still a trophy and credit to United and Ten Hag for winning it, they deserved it. He's done a fantastic job at changing the mood within the club and winning silverware in his first season will help with an impressive winning mentality that the current squad has right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see you lift the FA cup and/or Europa League either.

It's a proper cup just not as highly valued as the others. Tell any Newcastle fan it's not a cup, of they had won it. I'd say that argument wouldn't get very far 😂

True that, no English club has managed to even win that trophy. I hope you do the PL proud next season.

It's a trophy I'd love our Club yo win again. It gets a winning mentality into players and might be the 1st trophy alot of them will/ever win so it means alot. It can also be a springboard to greater things including a trip into Europe.

It might be the smallest least important to some Clubs but to others could be the most important. Depends on how you look at it.

As a Villa fan, I love The League Cup and FA Cup.
