I would imagine that the reality is now dawning on those who boldly proclaimed top for was already nailed and there were a lot of you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure many said it was nailed on. I still reckon it will be quite comfortable, I'll hold my hands up if I'm wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The reality after we only got 1 point out of 6.
People were quite rightly confident on top 4 a few weeks ago. Doubt many of us expected to get 1 out of 6 points out of those two fixtures.
the game vs Newcastle is a six pointer, too.
We might not make this top 4 if these things keep happening. ie suspensions to key players, getting inexplicably tanked, dropping points at home to the most hopeless teams in the leagues.
It shows how thin our squad really is only after 8 months of the ETH era. Plenty more work to do over the next 2 or 3 windows before United will become a bonifide challenger. But the early signs and improvements are good and I believe Erik is ahead of schedule. |Meanwhile McFred will have to do a job for us until Erikson and Cass return. Big transfer window (ins and outs) ahead for us this summer.
A draw at Anfield and a win yesterday would have seen us home and hosed I think.
Now it's still well within our hands but we've made hard work of it as we often do.
We could potentially be in 5th place if we lose our next league game away at Newcastle due to the fact we have no league game next weekend where Spurs and Newcastle both do. They are both away though so let's hope 1 or both slip up.
I don't think our squad is coping all that well with the amount of games sadly. Fatigue has definitely kicked in for some of them.

There's a certain irony that neither of McFred started yesterday, presumably to avoid giving away silly free kicks and then the one midfielder we did pick got sent off for a silly foul
Maguire Martial McT out this summer.

I doubt that is the reason they weren't picked. Either Fred or McT should have started alongside Casemiro yesterday in place of Weghorst and we could have possibly avoided the red. People say Casemiro could have cost United top four, but I would say Weghorst could.

So we got spanked 7-0 by Liverpool because we were tired?
We drew against Southampton because of fatigue and not because we went down to 10 men?
It’s called probability. Hence why the odds were heavily in our favour to beat Southampton.

Re. Top 4 - it definitely isn't done and dusted. There's actually a fair chance we could be 5th by the end of our next league game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah with games in hand. The schedule isn't kind to us at all sadly.
The Brighton game doesn't actually have a free date for it to be rearranged incredibly. If we progress in Europe and the FA cup then there's not a single date we can play it on. What will have to happen is we play Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday again in one week.
Absolute lunacy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think the first week in May before the West Ham game and the last week of the season before Fulham have mid week empty spots even going all the way in the Europa

People were quite rightly confident on top 4 a few weeks ago. Doubt many of us expected to get 1 out of 6 points out of those two fixtures.
…..
A very basic understanding of how football works coupled with our very thin squad fighting on all four fronts should have told you this.

Riiiiight.
So we got spanked 7-0 by Liverpool because we were tired?
We drew against Southampton because of fatigue and not because we went down to 10 men?
It’s called probability. Hence why the odds were heavily in our favour to beat Southampton.
But you know better, don’t you lol

I obviously understood our situation better than those who thought we had top four nailed, yes.

I thought it was harsh but no massive complaints with it really - you jump in like that, you run that risk.

There is no point. They are not going to change it.
