Sample size over a five year span.
Record signing goalkeeper with a multitude of flaws, what were the club thinking?
The sooner Mendy is back in the lineup, the better. Along with NG and Mase, of course. Needed for Madrid.
Kepa is a liability. I've never bought into this idea that he's now good enough to be our first choice keeper just because he's not playing terribly like before. A top keeper saves that second goal and we definitely need a new first choice keeper this summer.
I'll give Potter credit yesterday. That was the first match I've seen in full where I could properly see the benefits of having him as a trainer. Throughout the match the football we played was a very high standard but particularly in the first half - varied the build up, two/three touch release keeping a great tempo, triangles in midfield. That was a fun watch.
Kepa is what he is. Mendy is what he is. Don't have a serious issue with either but would replace both in a heartbeat, but tbf my standards for keepers are very high. Was a keeper in my youth & my favourite Chelsea player growing up was a keeper (Cudicini).
I agree with most of what you say and that Kepa is not the ideal starting keeper for us but he wasn't at fault for the late goal and shouldn't be used as a scape goat. We have a fairly decent team now and are a striker and keeper away from being a good team. They will come, neither Mendy nor Kepa are the long term answer but they are all we have at the.moment and so we will have to make do until that changes.
"Kepa is not the ideal starting keeper for us but he wasn't at fault for the late goal"
Big to differ...
Firstly Kepa needlessly gave the ball away -
https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/1637430024335679489/pu/vid/750x326/hqarsG_rQEUzemsO.mp4?tag=12
Look at the options he had in front, choose neither of them. Instead opting for a hopeless punt forward..relinquishing possession there is what ultimately led to the equaliser.
Secondly, the equaliser was a tame effort which somehow slipped underneath his arms.
The ball wasn't even struck or placed into the bottom right corner, was right in the middle. Should have been a comfortable save.
Kepa has a habit of making saveable shots look impossible to save.
Compared to genuine top class keepers he's a very average shot stopper. Also he's relatively small both in height and general body mass which makes it difficult to make himself big to stop shots like that.

Weak wrists! Hate that in keepers, it's like a striker having no aim. Defeats the point.
Having seen the video you posted, I would only say one maybe two of those were his fault.
That's not to say Kepa is good enough for an elite team, but I think he's far from the priority when it comes to fixing us.

I disagree, from where I was standing (MHL block 15) behind snd too his left, short kicking the ball into play he chose the right option. Everton players were swiftly closing down both options. He gave us time to re group, we didn't take it.
I do not claim Kepa is the answer either nor do I believe Mendy is. Neither are good enough for us long term but either will have to do in the short term.
I'll never be one that catagorises Mendy and Kepa together.
Mendy at his worst, is Kepa at his best. Latter doesn't have any overriding attributes.
Kepa is an unmitigated disaster of a signing, all things considered...which Mendy isn't.
Mendy has shown a level of distinction im his first season, which Kepa has been nowhere near close to reaching.

Your choice. I see them both as pretty good shot stoppers but question their distribution and decision making at times.

Hmm. Think both are pretty average at everything tbh. Where shot stopping goes Kepa has weak wrists, and Mendy's tendency to save with both hands limits his reach - which is a shame cos he's got size.
The main thing Mendy has over Kepa (besides wages & price of both) is credit in the bank, cos at the end of the day he delivered when it mattered in that CL winning run. In a perfect world I'd keep him as #2 as I trust him marginally more.
Mendy is off. He rejected a new deal and he won't sit on the bench when he can play regularly probably for a CL level side.
Kepa is pretty mediocre but he is harder to get rid of than you think so will likely be here next seaspn
Kepa's contract runs out next season right? 2018 & I think it was a six year deal?
2025 - It was a seven year deal
Fkn hell, his agent really had us over a barrel didn't he?
