I'm intrigued to know who he was specifically referring to as well. He did say the complete 11, but he must have had some individual players in mind.
I watched the whole game live and I can't say that any of the performances were "selfish". Incompetent yes, but not selfish.
However, there was one moment (can't remember which half) when Harry absolutely should have squared the ball to Son, but he chose to try to make a chance for himself instead. Technically that could be described as being selfish in that moment, but that's what great strikers do. So hopefully Conte wasn't referring to Kane.
Kane has been playing for person accolades since Levy denied him his dream move to City. He can't wait to get away at this point.
I think selfish in defence also not just attack. Players not caring about the sloppy passes they give team mates. Shuffling carp to other players.
Romero, Hojbjerg, Dier and Lenglet do this alot.
Kane can sometimes appear selfish, but he’s a striker at heart and he drops deep so often to help the team it can’t be him
Romero maybe, Richarlison (his outburst) but can’t think of many others. A strange criticism especially as there’s plenty other things wrong with the player’s mentality and attitude
Personally I don't think you can accuse Romero of being selfish. He's the only real warrior that we have in the team and I see a player that cares in him.
Hojbjerg, Dier and Lenglet are just technically not good enough and certainly don't have the fighting spirit that Romero has. If that's the definition of selfish then so be it.

Fair enough but Romero should realise how bad his team mates are. He gives them passes that require technique. He's too used to playing with Argentina
Not a wum, but Kane comes across as really selfish when he steps up for freekicks. Guy only score 1 in his career and it was a deflection. Looks like a player chasing golden boots at the expense of his team

Kane is allowed to be selfish I guess. But he's topped assist charts so I would say Kane is exempt.
Selfish for me is same as lazy. Players not showing for the ball not trying to give their team mates good pass options, only worry about their game not how to help their team mate out of a tough press.
I don`t think many of them are selfish, some of them are probably happy just to coast along and collect their (astronomical) wages.
Perisic for example, has all the hallmarks of a player here to top up his pension, particularly defensively he has found the PL hard work, his is either over the hill or is winding down his career and doesn`t have the same hunger anymore.
Others have seen the same movie play out so many times now that they must be apathetic to the whole thing, some of them will realize the squad does not have the tools to compete for the biggest prizes and must feel what the point is, this has to affect performances.
It all boils down to ENIC`s lack of strategy, sporting ambition and failure to refresh the squad often enough.
Dier 100% is one of the main culprits. That useless c** has been through all the managers

Maybe, but we have nobody else capable since Eriksen left, maybe Dier, Son and now Porro can take a free kick, but Kane is on goal bonuses so that probably has something to do with it.
Selfish is probably lost in Conte`s translation, he probably means lazy and shirking responsibility.
I have seen players hide on the pitch, not show for the ball, not want the ball in a tight situation for fear of making a mistake, be afraid to make a difficult pass. Others fail to put the effort in to close down shots, close off passing channels etc.
It could be lost in Conte's translation. He could mean shiite?

I agree that selfish has been lost in translation he means useless.
If you score 3 goals in any game you should win so I'm guessing this has far more to do with the back than the front of the team.
Of course Contes had the best part of a year and a half to sort us out and after a cracking start we are now going backwards so he has to take his share of the blame.
This is now a relationship beyond repair and I'm just praying that the international break is used to get a new manager in. I'm not saying it is all his fault, some of what he said is true, but he certainly has to take some of the blame and I just don't think anyone at all is enjoying Spurs right now - not the players, the manager, the fans, the chairman - it's all just gone so wrong. Surely conte has to go this week.
Please let's not re-write history.
Conte is very intelligent and his use of the word "selfish" was not a mistake or a language problem.
He definitely meant "selfish" because he views the team as letting HIM down and affecting HIS reputation.
He spoke about how the players affect the reputation of managers that have been at the club previously. He definitely came out fighting to stave of criticism of him and to protect his reputation - as I've already said in my article yesterday.
Why keep blaming Conte the days of the manager buying players is long gone, owners buy players it's their money and they don't want anyone spending on their behalf.
The days of Fergoson and Wenger are over it's moved on, today the game is all about individual stats players try to score difficult goals when a teammate is in a better position, normally a tap in do away with stats there ruining the game.
considering that he spoke about how this group of players is the best group of guys he's ever worked with a few weeks ago and the team on Saturday was made up of players he plays constantly and never rotates out I'd say that he wasn't talking above anyone specific and was just throwing his toys out the pram like a faaacking child

Perhaps but I'd be stunned if managers, most if not all have some say in who the club brings in? obvs some players will be "club bought" but I do think it doesn't involve the manager? to be fair we will never be told by the hierarchy's what's what
"does involve the manager mostly"

This exactly. I've seen so many player walk around during a game. But Contes tactics is partly to blame. We play 541 zonal low block defence. Players think once they are in their defensive zone they don't need to do anything, that the ball will come to them. We really miss Bentancur. The one player that didn't give a sh!t about Conte low block and actually tried to press and win the ball

He contradicts himself all the time...speaks of how great Chelsea are...yet they below us in the league. He should stop his fascination with other clubs and focus on the tools he has. Rewarding average performances and punishing good ones. Danjuma scores on debut...never to be seen. Pure jokes
Just an outsiders POV but I thought Conte was completely out of order and devoid of any integrity and class.
You only have to take a look at his cup record for starters. Take out a fluke season at Chelsea and his record is 'won 5th tier leagues when he had the most money spend'.
Charlatan imo.
