We should know by now that Levy is going to fack this up whatever he decides. People act as if there's some Voodoo magic going on as to why Spursy happens. I think we're at the point now we've ruled out all of the influencing factors aside from him.

There’s some truth to this but surely even you must be convinced now that going for project ‘winner’ doesn’t really work does it. Whether you agree with Levy or me, there’s probably only one type of manager that can work under the ENIC model and it sure as hell isn’t Tuchel. This isn’t just to do with style of player, it has everything to do with attitude and volatility. What on earth do we expect from Tuchel that we didn’t get from Conte? His two previous clubs are cash rich so his style of management will have changed. He’s the last big thing, not the next big thing.
You and I both know that even though I agree that I am very black and white in my opinion on this, the one thing you can’t deny is that Tuchel fits the profile of those we’ve tried and failed with rather than the project model that got us the closest to winning we’ve ever had before.
Poch is right there and free. Staggering incompetence from the top on this one. Billy was right all along.

Yeah I'm not really invested in who's right and wrong here. I think you're wrong in suggesting he's a different profile to Poch. I think they're pretty similar. Whatever I don't care that much.
But to Darren's/my point earlier, I don't think the project route is realistic or practical these days. It's why the fanbase is so split - crowing about how much we've grown revenues, how we get top 4 regularly etc, without taking any of the competitions really seriously.. it's fine as a business model obviously, but as a long time fan it's sh!t.
To be clear I don't want Tuchel. But I'd much rather we hired him if there was real solid reasoning behind it and a commitment to long term strategy. Just like I'd like to see Poch come back, but not if it's just to put a bandaid on until it falls apart again.
If we were well run it wouldn't be between Tuchel, Poch, Ange, Enrique.. it should be clear the type of manager we hire. It's a shambles
That last point is bang on. The proof of how confused we are as a club is laid out bare in the list of candidates. They’re all wildly different from each other. When will we ever learn.
This club is more screwed than I thought. It really is.
Bales, I think once you get to a certain level it’s difficult to be clear on what type of manager you can, or should, be appointing. Because there’s only a finite amount of managers that can manage at the level you want to be.
That’s not to suggest Levy’s got his managerial appointments right, but they have become more difficult to make since Spurs’ profile has become bigger. Both him and the fanbase have become more impatient.

The key part there is ‘the levels you want to be’ meaning ‘not there yet’ so the limited pool of managers doesn’t actually apply to us. We’re now in the same position as we were in 2014, flirting with top four but not guaranteed it, so the type of manager we get in doesn’t need to be top tier. It needs to be someone on the way up, just as we are, not already there. That’s the entire point.
Agreed Darren. FWIW I've not been Levy out until recently. I'm still not ENIC out. I recognise the great work he's done at that he was the ideal guy to get us to this stage. But it's a different job now. Just like you have managers that are experts in promotion/avoiding relegation, you have target men or wing backs etc etc..
Levy should be respected for what he's done. But if he's actually good at his job he should realise it's time to step down. Admittedly he tried hiring a DoF but that's backfired, probably because he hired the guy. It's not Levy's fault he doesn't know how to run a successful football team. He's never done it before

100% spot on - thank you for saying this.
This is why I’m not bothered about who the next manager is - it doesn’t matter one bit because it will be a combo of Levy/Paratici deciding and Paratici is not going against Levy given his current predicament

Yeah I agree with that. And I think we discussed before how it’s his responsibility to sort the back room so that Spurs can maximise their resources when it comes to recruitment, which he’s not done too well with. But I think you can separate managerial appointments from that, because it’s a more difficult thing to do to simply have a model by which the manager has to fit. So I wouldn’t be too critical of having a list of managers that have different profiles. Especially as timing and capability are so important when it comes to appointing a manager. For example, being in the CL and Kane staying next season makes your prospects quite different when it comes to recruitment and managerial appointments. And the fans aren’t exactly aligned on what the club should be doing either. For every fan that wants a ‘project manager’ there’s plenty that want you to focus on the short term to try and deliver some success and maximise the tools you have at your disposal. In that respect, you’re never going to please everyone. You just need to get things right whatever route you do go down.

People want a manager who plays 4 at the back and to ditch the formation when the club has more or less set up for the future playing the formation with its signings at wing back
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't agree with this. Pochettino's 4231 showed you can play ultra attacking full backs with the right defensive mid (Dier back then) who will drop in between the centre halves, which basically turned it into a back 3 in possession. I see no reason why Porro/Spence and Udogie couldn't play in a back 4 under a coach whose style emphasised keeping the ball and playing high up the pitch. Plenty of sides do it.
Besides, none of the other full/wing backs in the squad (Emerson, Perisic, Sessegnon, Davies) is a specialist wing back anyway. I don't get why people think the squad is only set up for a back 3 with wing backs.

Seems unlikely. He's in Italy
Depends how fluid you’re going to be with your formation. I suspect a lot of coaches would use a back three with the Spurs squad.
Again, I disagree. The back 3 places the most emphasis (in terms of number of players required) on the weakest area of the squad (defence), and gets the least value out of the strongest area (attack). Spurs need two good new CBs just to have enough for the first XI, let alone decent backups. At least playing 4 at the back, only one new starting defender is needed:
RB - Porro/Emerson
RCB - Romero/Sanchez/Tanganga
LCB - NEW PLAYER/Dier
LB - Udogie/Davies
One new starting CB and that relegates the likes of Dier, Tanganga, Sanchez to where they should be - on the bench. And there's an attacking and defensive option for both full back positions. Hell, it might even get some use out of Perisic by moving him up to the left wing where he actually knows how to play.
Tbh it's the main reason I don't want Tuchel - he likes a back 3
It caters to the weaknesses of the Spurs squad, which is the defence. And gives cover to the wing backs, as well as taking defensive duties away from the attackers. In theory, anyway. Tuchel used to back three because it suited the Chelsea team. He didn’t use it that much before then as I he caters his tactics to the squads he has.
I’d be very surprised if you see Spurs using that as a back four because it would get absolutely destroyed in transition. Unless you get someone that doesn’t care about the defence, I suppose. But I doubt even Brendan Rodgers would go for that back four.
It forces more of Spurs' worst players onto the pitch, in my view. Dier, Lenglet, Perisic - none of those would be in the starting XI in a back 4, which can only be a good thing.
I think ultimately the squad is a bit of a mess whoever comes in next. I've posted in the past week or so that I genuinely reckon about 50% of the squad (more including loanees) is not good enough and should be moved on as soon as possible. It's the direct result of years of directionless squad-building.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course Tuchel doesn’t fit - so 100% Levy will appoint him.
Even you will have to accept if Tuchel comes in that the club will be incapable of improving whilst Levy remains in his position - I’ve known that since Poch left

Of course you did.
Not sure the relevance anyway. The point was that Spurs are even worse for sacking managers than Chelsea recently.

Thats because our chairman is clueless

Ed Woodward says hi.

You got rid of him - all some of our fans do is forever bleat about the manager and let Levy off the hook - Every time
