Even more convinced the main problem ....

It's also attacking intent.

We have had zero patterns of play all season and just look like we're relying on individual moments of magic.

We all knew this the last few summers when Jose was pushing for us to sign Skriniar and Conte for Bastoni and Gvardiol.

It’s like the Right Back situation though, we keep getting nose bleeds everytime we are quoted for the elite option and then because we don’t really do scouting anymore we don’t know the gems at the more affordable levels. Meaning we go into casino mode and hope for the best buying the affordable option.

For me it comes back to strategy and is the biggest problem the club have - the “win now” managers want the top players, not Joe Rodon and Clement Lenglet. The project manager will take a Djed Spence and work with them - but we don’t have a project manager. We’ve been straddled between these two camps for four years and have wasted an utter fortune when if we had followed one strategy completely we would have been in a far better position.

Of course we come into this summer needing CBs more than ever, but now we have no CL football to offer, no permanent manager currently, no director of football scouting players and a toxic atmosphere. This rebuild will take 2 years if we’re lucky, you can already write off next season - we might get better football but we will be finishing 6/7 and not winning any cups - at least we’re used to it

If we spend 100million on two top centre backs….

I’ll stop you right there…

Agreed, 2 quality centre backs are needed desperately, along with 2 quality central midfielders.

Hojbjerg I would sell tomorrow, Skipp will make a decent squad player. Hopefully Bentancur & Bissouma can form a formidable partnership next season.

It's not just CBs. Also need CMs who can progress the ball quickly and accurately and also press, and forwards who want to press too.

And a coach to work on systems and patterns rather than just "run a bunch and hope the ball breaks favourably"

So I think we’re all agreed, we just need new owners, a new manager and a completely new team.

I’m not writing off Bissouma and Bentancur under a decent manager. Who knows Lo Celso might not be so carp either. Then add Sarr, Hojbjerg and Skipp as back ups. That 6 CMs plus Ndombele the dud.

We shouldn’t waste Levy money on CMs when CBs should be our priority

Levy will definitely cut spending next season and use the excuse that no champs league. Plus 60m on Richarlison will give him nightmares but only because Kane didn’t get injured. If he had we would be moaning that we don’t have a prem proven striker on our books.

Before we go spunking 100m on 2 centrebacks that may or not be of prem league standard, we need to get in the new Manager and see what system he will be playing, although if he plays a back 4 what do we do with the 5 or 6 wingbacks on the books, so getting the manager in early is imperative

I think we have to play back 3. Levy will not release funds for a back 4 formation unless Lenglet and Emerson are full backs. Then we need a top class CB

Irony is 442 actually works for us

Kane Richarlison
Perisic PEH Skipp Porro
Lenglet Dier Romero Emerson

Nothing special but round pegs in round holes

Didn’t Romero and Sanchez cost you the best part of £100m?

No irony there. A lot of the best teams ar e playing 4-4-2.
And I don't care if we line up 1-8-1.
Moment the ball enters our half we're playing 5-4-1 or something like that.
