BTW, Jonty, keep writing like this and you’ll put Phil Hay out of a job. 5 Stars from the south side.
Jonty, why are your recent articles so downbeat regarding the prospects of Leeds United?
Regarding JKA, Orta presented him and Bowen to Marcelo he chose JKA then sent him home from his first days training for not been fit enough so not really fair for the fans to lay the problem all at Ortas door,

Says it all when some were impressed by the utter guff he spouted in the press conference.
Embarrassing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree White... I thought he spoke with a lot of assuredness, maturity and presence that can only benefit the team at this late desperate stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Assuredness & presence - think anyone would have that with a guaranteed half a million on it's way.
Maturity - should come naturally at his age!! 🤣🤣
Didn't think B.S. was embarrassing at all - He just spoke facts, and was genuine, and reassuring. In fact I think Gracia's interviews, and press conferences were extremely embarrassing and painful to watch. I have hope we can get something at Maine Road and eventually get out of this mess.

I realise Don that hindsight is a wonderful thing and we can all be guilty of forgetting our own mistakes, nobody's perfect and all that but Victor Orta is most definitely solely responsible for the JKA fiasco and I will outline my reasons below.
Firstly we all operate in life with an acceptable level of dysfunction if you like but Victor Orta and many like him seem to not fit into these acceptable social parameters and have little or no middle rational ground but only act in a way that goes from one extreme to another.
Yes he had some successes in his time at Elland Road but far too many disasters. So I don't excuse what many of us saw as shocking eccentric and manic judgement and conduct by him which I think has severely handicapped our great club and held us back quite significantly.
Back to the JKA issue... Why present MB with JKA in the first place?...Clearly the player was unfit and injury prone which was another of Orta's remarkable knacks for time after time lumbering Leeds with players made of glass.
Then if that wasn't bad enough the wages and terms of the deal for JKA plus the sneaky dishonerable way in which the club tried to wriggle out of it all when it was obvious JKA was a humungous mistake was breathtakingly dishonest and recklessly irresponsible.
Sorry Don, he may have been a charming likeable fellow who I suspect you have experience of meeting, but unfortunately most destructive narcissistic types are like this so you are most definitely in the minority of Leeds fans trying to defend or excuse his questionable record.
In a lot of people's eyes Orta yielded far too much power and influence and I think got tunnel vision over particular players he sourced, wholly unsuitable for the rigours of top English league football.
His blind faith in Jesse Marsch when it appears there was a very good opportunity to replace him with Emery for me is the most damning indictment of his tenure if this is in fact true.
We are deiinitely far far better off without him and God only knows how long it will take the club to recover from some inexplicably poor decisions made by VO and yes Radz too but we can all only hope the damage left mostly in his wake is not too longlasting.
Macca- never met him though know people who dealt with him regularly and think he was ok but yes made mistakes, he should have walked when the owner tried to sell Harrison on deadline day then sacked Marsch without telling anyone as from then on it was a stand off and nothing got done properly as the relationship was irreparable, I think their may be a change in direction regarding recruitment but that depends on who the next manager is discussions are happening but which league and ownership arent making things easy,
Fair enough. Just trying to lighten the mood a tadge👍.

With that attitude you won't succeed in anything !
My very first Leeds game was aged 8 away at Main Road a 1 nil win on boxing day 1975, Paul Madeley heading in the only goal late on while I was sitting with my Dad at the opposite North Stand end.
In all I think I witnessed 4 other away victories there so not a bad hunting ground for Leeds. I think the Main Road ground has been turned into exclusive luxury town houses and appointments now.
My first away game was a 3-2 win 1977 14yo apparently known as the battle of Maine road I went on my own on Wallace Arnold seem to remember a shortage of windows on the way home, always a lively day out and you had to keep your wits about you

Yes I was at that one in the Main Stand this time with my Dad. Arthur Graham was brilliant that game. I remember the away end was absolutely packed as usual... loads and loads of Leeds coaches. Happy memories!
