I'm pretty sure there was a call in the 80's for Liverpool to be handicapped by starting the league on minus 4 points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I wouldn’t support that, but only on the basis that it’d be facking embarrassing when we lose the league by more than 10 points anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was mooted on TV, doubt there was any chance of it actually happening.

But losing its spark and losing its appeal are not the same thing, Ripleys.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Split that hair a bit more finely. Just to make your point.

Ok, explain the difference.

Oh fack off. Why are you being a belllend today?

Spark.

The clue is in the word.

Excitement. Competitiveness. Wow factor.

The mass appeal of the PL relies on a number of variables and the above is just part of it.

The idea that there’d be an obvious data point to show how a dominant team has directly led to a reduced appeal is comically stupid.

No mate, you're getting that confused with the call for Liverpool fans to stop stealing hubcaps after 4 pints

Oh fack off?

Calm down Winston.

Replace the word appeal (when I used it in my post) with the word Spark if it bothers you so much.

Let’s not turn it into your favourite topic - a debate about semantics.

Surprise me Winston - engage in a debate in a mature way instead of being a dck only intent on trying to score points and picking at the slightest thing as though it’s some kind victory.

Ripleys, right from the start you’ve been behaving like a berk.

You can make this about me but it’s all there in black and white. Grow up.

Losing its spark does not mean that I think popularity will decline.

If you can’t wrap your head round that then this isn’t going to go very far.

I admire what City have done in a sense. Pep is a real football man, created a team that plays in the right way and very entertaining to watch. I think this will be their year to finally break their way into the European Cup winners club and then push on from there.

However they are on a different planet to all the other teams when it comes to spending and it’s clear they have not played my the rules to enable them to gradually grind down the competition through sheer weight of spending.

We will have to wait for Pep to move on now before the others get a look in.

No, that’s not true at all.

You have proven yet again that it’s futile to question your own view because when someone does you get all frustrated and resort to type.

All I’ve done is question whether the game is in danger of losing its spark. I’m saying it isn’t. That’s essentially it.

Why has that resulted in you responding to me the way you are choosing to respond?

Let’s leave it there. Write your reply by all means. I won’t bother clicking on this thread again to read it though. I just can’t be bothered.

Of course it’s true, Ripleys.

First of all you hadn’t actually considered that my view might also be the same as when United and Liverpool were dominant… so you cockily dismissed my view as only being true because it’s not United doing well.

When the penny dropped on that, you quite stupidly failed to understand that the ‘spark’ of a league can go up as well as down. You seemed to think it means that the league must have died decades ago.

And now to cap it all off you’ve decided that if it’s losing its spark then this would be evidenced by a reduction in popularity… seemingly ignoring my point that these two things are entirely different.

Oh and of course, you’ve been patronising throughout and then decided to make out it’s all my fault.

You’ve behaved like a belllend. Nothing new there.

Im just pleased the PL title winners are from the North!
I would hate it if those southern twwats won it!

“I won’t bother clicking on this thread again to read it though.”

This is the funniest and most desperate of lies.

You claim it’s me who wants to point score but then you’re just oh so desperate to pretend that you haven’t read my reply.

What a pathetic berk you really are.

And yes, you have read this. We can see the views, Ripley.

Seriously, you think he still has to prove that. I don't know why anyone engages with him unless it's to wind him up.

Here I have to disagree. City entertaining? Not for me. I find them quite boring to watch.

But yeah City was too big especially in the run in for us. Table doesnt lie. They are much better than Arsenal but I think we could close the gap to them and to all the big teams in the PL quicker than we thought.

So to summarise the thread, Liverpool and United fans think the league is dead because Liverpool and United are no longer the dominant sides 😂
