He shouldn't get any kind of ban until the hypocrisy displayed by those making the decisions is held to account.
He's played in the SkyBet Championship and League One, has been sponsored by another betting company at Newcastle, yet we're supposed to chastise him for falling for the advertising supported, in no small part, to the people that have ultimately banned him. You couldn't make it up.
If they're going to be so strict when applying gambling laws, they need to pull the ladder up on betting companies having such widespread involvement in football. I mean, what did they expect? Morons.

Totally agree with these comments🤔👍

Why? There’s clearly a major difference between advertising gambling to fans and not wanting footballers gambling on football matches.
I would think if we offered Brentford say £20m for Toney and he also appealed his 8 month ban as restrictive employment practice, then he could possibly get the ban reduced with a significant % suspended.
Bold move, but ultimately could be a bit of a coup.🤔😇

Of course he should get a ban. He broke the gambling rules for footballers. Advertising is not breaking any current rules is it? Stop conflating the two. One is within the rules, the other isn't.
Koobie and Sandy
The point isn't about whether he's done something wrong, it's about double standards. For me the ban is severe on the grounds that the betting advertising currently awash in the game, sanctioned by the very same people people that implemented the ban, absolutely contributed to his doing it. That's what advertising is. It affects everyone. Footballers aren't immune.
Even if he made a statement that he made this decision independent of any influence by advertisers, it's still unbelievably hypocritical of the FA to do so whilst allowing so much money enter the game via the same avenue. Morally they condemn but financially they commend. It's greed. Plain and simple.
It's clearly wrong to break betting rules but I think leniency should be applied on hypocrisy grounds. Gambling kills people. It ruins lives. We all know it's a mug's game but not everyone does. There's a brilliant doc on it I watched a few years ago and to hear from people like Keith Gillespie, Paul Merson and the families of those that saw no other way out other than to take their own life lays bare how serious and destructive it is.
Someone made a great point on Twitter that even when those adverts come on during games that say "When the fun stops, stop", the word FUN is in caps and much larger than the rest of the copyline. They know exactly what they're doing. Under the pretence of a morally upstanding statement, they inadvertently continue to push the agenda.
Don't be naive in thinking one is separate from the other. They're absolutely linked.
Meanwhile, and predictably, Klopp gets a paltry 2 game ban
