Is De Bruyne the best PL Midfielder ever?

posted on 22/5/23

The simple fact of the matter is that De Bruyne was not good enough for Mourinho and still isn't. Mourinho demands more from his players than goals and assists. What really wins trophies is grit and determination, something that De Bruyne lacks. This is reflected in De Bruyne's 0 European trophies since Mourinho let him go, and Mourinho's multiple European trophies in that time using more complete midfielders. It is all well and good doing a fancy curl pass against Wolves. What really matters is grinding out that 0-0 in a second leg of a CL semi and winning your team proper trophies.

De Bruyne will always therefore be remembered for what he didn't do rather than what he has done and right now he can be branded a failure in terms of Mourinho's much higher standards.

As a Chelsea fan I think Lampard was great, but him or Gerrard were clearly nowhere near as talented and creative as De Bruyne.

If only Jose had figured that out.

What makes you think he didn’t?

Could have more Rooneys there tbf.

I would take Gerrard 100 times out of a 100 over Debruyne. There was nothing he couldn't do. Peak Gearrard in the new era Liverpool teams would have taken them into another galaxy

No Joey Barton or Lee Cattermole? The list has no validity without them.
