9 out, 5 in at the subsequent January window. (Many were youths pressed into 1st team action tbf)
Enjoy the ride!

That is brilliant. Did Ange play the youths much?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only because he had to. Initially because he'd got rid so many and transfers in were slow to come. Then again when hammys started popping and guys getting put out by covid crap. They weren't seen again with any significance.
Sorry to disappoint you but he didn't 'bring through' one single academy player.
Levy will probably spend all summer low balling clubs and will still be pisssing about in the last week of the window.
We need replacements for Lucas and Danjuma, Gil may take one of those places though. Maybe a replacement for Kane, a creative midfield baller, an upgrade on Hojbjerg, 2x quality CB's and a quality replacement for Lloris as a bare minimum.
The following need to leave first or are already leaving::
Lloris

With no European football, and with the domestic cups need to be taken ultra seriously, Spurs have far to many players. Lots will see next to no game time, so definitely need outing. Just as previous poster said going to have to take a hit on players being sold.
Anyone know what the position is on just terminating contracts, is it a cheaper alternative than just keep paying players for doing nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
terminating players contracts is not good for the books. You are writing down their value to zero, and getting rid of them (so you have no asset) while also the transfer fee is still being amortised. While you may save a bit on wages the rest will appear as negative figures in accounts which just means we have less to play with to remain FFP compliant compared to letting them see out their contract
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We had about a £300m headspace within FFP last season so we should be ok. Levy should see this as a one off. Clear the decks and have a proper reset.
Get rid of the deadwood or loan them again in one hit.
Realistically Ange only really needs 18-19 decent players without European Football next season.

If you want that team to play a completely different brand of football then you need to let Ange pick the type of players he wants.
He was able to do this at Celtic and its the job that he did at celtic that is the reason behind Levy appointing him. The one thing that the celtic fans praised under his tenure is that he identified the players he wanted.

There may have been 3 players on the list for a position and he got one of them. That's different to hand picking which implies he wants player A and will not accept players B-Z.

you need a head of recruitment who recruits for that style. no top 6 sides (outside of united potentially based on their business) are letting their coaches handpick players. Klopp wanted brandt over salah. you establish a vision for your style of play and the leave the coaching to the coaches and the scouting to the scouts
So the manager / coach tells his scouts he wants a ‘pacy winger who scores goals’ and then just sees what turns up on the 1st day of season

no you need your head of recruitment to work with the manager.
A head of recruitment typically oversees the signing of young talent for the future not so much for 1st team ready players to come straight into the team.
The manager will identify either what type of player he wants. However in Ange case with Celtic he 100% handpicked most of the players he brought in for the 1st team.(to start with anyway). And like I said you have signed on the back of the job he did with Celtic.
The OP has listed players to come in, so if any of them are correct its not ones that Ange has identified.
Thats a mistake if true.

Of course a good coach will try and mould the players bought but that seems a bit more work than should be required, imo only of course

There is a near zero percent chance we have promised Ange the same power over transfers he had at Celtic. Even Conte didn't get that.
that just isn't true that the director of football doesn't handle first team signings. Obviously they work alongside the manager - the manager says what he needs and the recruitment team will create a shortlist. Obviously if there's anyone the manager says absolutely no to then they're not gonna bother signing him, but no well run clubs are going out and signing whoever the manager tells them to. Times have changed.

Absolutely but surely the manager/coach should have the final say on any player coming in that he will be dealing with, it's his head on the block ultimately?
I don't disagree that signing players has changed over the years, you're right there but I have always been stunned that another person/s would bring in players that another person would have to make fit into their ideas, tactics, plans?

Ie Klopp is the one that says yes or no and in this case the DOF had to convince him to say yes ... ie Klopp is the one that decides for the 1st team.
If they're definitively against signing a specific player then yeah you shouldn't sign them, because chances are they're not gonna play them.
If you've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 players and the coach is happy with any of them, then you should let the recruitment experts make that decision, regardless of whether or not the coach has a preference. coaching and scouting are two totally different skills.

so ultimately it comes down to the coach.... if the coach says no it doesnt happen regardless of what the DOF thinks/says.
thats sounds to me like the manager picking them...
The coach is the one that picks them in the end. If a DOF goes above the managers head and sells or signs players without his permission they tend to end up walking or it becomes a disaster.
look at Chelsea , prime example of bringing in players without the managers say so.
result - an unbalanced squad that doesnt resemble anything like a team

So the manager / coach tells his scouts he wants a ‘pacy winger who scores goals’ and then just sees what turns up on the 1st day of season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean it was soo handy that Celtic head of recruitment just so happened to scout the players from japan and get them in for Ange.
Maybe that what Beale meant by being lucky eh?

no coach should be handpicking their signings
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really? Why bother hiring them then mate? Surely they will know who they best want to play and in a certain manner, happy to stand corrected if there is a better way but I honestly doubt it? Of course a good coach will try and mould the players bought but that seems a bit more work than should be required, imo only of course

coach/recruitment team and club as a whole should be pulling in the same direction on players to sign

----------------------------------------------------------------------
you need a head of recruitment who recruits for that style. no top 6 sides (outside of united potentially based on their business) are letting their coaches handpick players. Klopp wanted brandt over salah. you establish a vision for your style of play and the leave the coaching to the coaches and the scouting to the scouts
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no you need your head of recruitment to work with the manager.
From what I seen of him he doest seem the type that would hve come if he didnt get the assurances he would have wanted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a near zero percent chance we have promised Ange the same power over transfers he had at Celtic.
Times have changed.

because they're a good coach, so you've hired them to coach the team. No competent club is running like this - coaches aren't recruitment experts.
Like I said, if Liverpool left it up to klopp they never would have signed salah. do you think if they went down that path they would have been more successful than they are now?

And look what happened you had Conte trying to manage a team in a style that the players he had were not suitable for.
I didnt say the director of football doesnt handle first team transfers I said that he wont sign them on th eback of no input from the manager. he will sign young talent for the clubs future without the managers ok perhaps but it will be the manager leading the DOF in terms of 1st team signings.

Absolutely but surely the manager/coach should have the final say on any player coming in that he will be dealing with, it's his head on the block ultimately?
I don't disagree that signing players has changed over the years, you're right there but I have always been stunned that another person/s would bring in players that another person would have to make fit into their ideas, tactics, plans?

you are aware that Klopp said that the DOF convinced HIM to sign Salah.....Ie Kloppis the one that has the say so and the DOF had to talk him into it ... not the other way around !
"‘I didn’t really want Salah, but he convinced me to take him.’"
Ie Klopp is the one that says yes or no and in this case the DOF had to convince him to say yes ... ie Klopp is the one that decides for the 1st team.

If they're definitively against signing a specific player then yeah you shouldn't sign them, because chances are they're not gonna play them.
If you've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 players and the coach is happy with any of them, then you should let the recruitment experts make that decision, regardless of whether or not the coach has a preference. coaching and scouting are two totally different skills.

yes because like I said, of course the manager needs to sign off on players. that's not the same thing as them handpicking players. The head of recruitment also needs to sign off on players. You need consensus

so ultimately it comes down to the coach.... if the coach says no it doesnt happen regardless of what the DOF thinks/says.
thats sounds to me like the manager picking them...
