Yeah. It's much cheaper here of course. Dublin prices seem crazy!
I don't need to raise the rent though as it more than covers the mortgage. I'd have sold it but got no offers for it back in 2016/17. I would now though probably but it'd be unfair evicting a good tenant who has made a good life for herself back in her home town
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What would you do if your mortgage payment increased to the point it exceeded the rent you receive?

We need more babies not less, so maybe discouraging people from having them isn't such a bright idea.
There needs to be mass council house building with no opportunity to buy them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We need more babies to prop up an economic system that's well on it's way to fecking the planet beyond the point of no return.
To worsening health outcomes, longer hours, dying wildlife, the list goes on and on.
Perhaps maybe we need to look at the 7 billion odd population and think maybe it's time to have less kids, a lot less kids and instead fix our economic models so they're not just a giant Ponzi scheme.

I don't know what can be done but it's pretty disgusting at how high rent prices are everywhere.
I'm in the Midlands and you're talking £750+ to rent anywhere that's not a sh!thole. When you then factor in all the other costs like electric bills and council tax then you basically need to be on £30k just to survive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It can be €2000 a month in Dublin for a property and that’s nothing special
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s disappointing as I had planned to possibly spend my later years in Ireland living a nice cheap life. Is it much better on the west coast? Galway etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be less mate although not by a huge amount. It would be far better to buy a property outright there. Would cost way less than Dublin
Is this where our 90s metal bar will be located?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely. Near to the cliffs of Moher and we can sell hot pies with exotic ingredients to dumb American tourists

I’d also like to see a way where if you rent for a couple of years that should be enough to convince a bank to purchase a property with a mortgage equal to what the rent paid was. Or something perhaps better than that based on rental records rather than an unattainably high deposit unless you get an inheritance payout.

There's a big difference between saying the population needs to come down and that we should take people's children away from them.

I don't know what can be done but it's pretty disgusting at how high rent prices are everywhere.
I'm in the Midlands and you're talking £750+ to rent anywhere that's not a sh!thole. When you then factor in all the other costs like electric bills and council tax then you basically need to be on £30k just to survive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It can be €2000 a month in Dublin for a property and that’s nothing special
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s disappointing as I had planned to possibly spend my later years in Ireland living a nice cheap life. Is it much better on the west coast? Galway etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be less mate although not by a huge amount. It would be far better to buy a property outright there. Would cost way less than Dublin
Is this where our 90s metal bar will be located?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely. Near to the cliffs of Moher and we can sell hot pies with exotic ingredients to dumb American tourists
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And build tributes to Miss Hoffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Side eye pies
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Trademark that name. Also download was excellent
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Awesome dude. How were Slipknot?

Did not see them. Had to fly back Sunday as no childminder for that night

We need more babies not less, so maybe discouraging people from having them isn't such a bright idea.
There needs to be mass council house building with no opportunity to buy them.

Probably not, but i think the amount of parents out there with zero intentions of providing for them are very, very minimal... Where you seem to think they are everywhere. So don't take my answer as some kind of "gotcha"

Not at all inescapable if you can think outside of a constant growth model.
Sadly there's not much will from powerful people and there's enough cuckolds to back them that by the time enough people realise a change is needed, it'll be far too late.

I’d also like to see a way where if you rent for a couple of years that should be enough to convince a bank to purchase a property with a mortgage equal to what the rent paid was. Or something perhaps better than that based on rental records rather than an unattainably high deposit unless you get an inheritance payout.
