I think I heard that this is our oldest Ashes bowling attack since 1928.
Who is coming through to replace our old timers? Archer looks done for red ball cricket, what is the situation with Stone?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Potts, Tongue, Carse, Atkinson, Miles etc. All playing County Championship or have played tests.
Coming through you have the likes of Sonny Baker, Nathan Gilchrist and Henry Brookes. Sure there will be loads of others we haven't heard of yet.

Missed Saqib Mahmood from that list too if he gets back from injury.
Is it me, or has the umpiring been below standard in this test match? Seems to have been a lot of their decisions overturned in this match

Well, the weather predictions are already wrong given it's currently not raining up there. Hopefully that continues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get them out in the middle now then!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good point, why can extra time only be found at the end of the day. Why not start an hour earlier
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's my biggest bug bear with Cricket. I remember going to Edgbaston years ago. The sun shone till 11.10 then rain came for most of the day. we could have seen an hours more play if they had started at 10.00.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The rules around rain in general need to move forward with the times.
We all knew Saturday and Sunday would be rain affected so why not play an extra hour/until 90 overs in the preceding 3 days?
Then today the pitch inspection is at 11, why not make it 10:45 so we may be able to start on time?

I was thinking the same
Start delayed
fecking rain
I'm not confident we'll see a break in the rain long enough to get any play. Looks like the persistent type of rain we had all day in the South West yesterday.
Sad way to not be able to win the game but we had a window of opportunity yesterday and we’re not good enough.
Forecast tomorrow is very good in Manchester.

You were expecting us to bowl out a team in 30 overs (12 of which had to be spin), on a pitch that has seen over 1000 runs in 2.5 innings and with a team looking to bat as long as possible?
Another poor start to the day for England sees them out to 5/1 to win the match. Can't just have one good day of cricket and expect to win a match. Australia had a good day yesterday. A draw is the deserved result.

Although I am interested in hearing what a team bowling with an out of shape ball that wasn't swinging and a pitch that wasn't providing much assistance, who were them made to take off their pace bowlers once they managed to get the ball changed; could have done better during their 30 over window of opportunity. Particularly when the Aussie batsmen actually played it quite well.
Looking at the radar you just have to laugh.
Virtually every other cricket ground in the country you could get a full days play in, apart from Manchester

It's a good batting track, England had to bowl with a soaking wet, knackered ball, I think the best they could have achieved was 2 wickets unless Australia batted badly, which they didn't.

For example, I never said I expected us to bowl them out. How ever had we have gotten a couple of early wickets, who knows.

In cricket you have to play in the scorching heat of India or not at all in Manchester. It is just different conditions and what makes it fair for everyone.

I always think with cricket that people forget two teams play the game. More than any other sport. The thought is always that it must be their team that has bowled badly, rather than the opposition batting well.
Marsh and Labuschagne navigated that period well. They didn't really give anything away. England tried loads of different tactics with them, but they didn't fall into any traps.
