Be a shame, but can't blame the lad if he goes with Bayern. Massive club, pay well and guarantee major trophies.

Not sure why we always do this. He has a release clause, if we want him, pay the money and get it done. Seems to be a bit of a recurring theme.

The stuff I’ve read about Bayern being ahead of us don’t really make much sense tbf. They imply they’re ahead of us in the bidding when he has a release clause and no mention of him actually wanting to go to Bayern over us.

1. The release clause doesn’t come in to effect until 1 July.
2. The clause is said to set a figure for any interested club which is dependent on that club’s revenue. The figure for United is reported to be as much as £60m.
If United wanted to secure the services of the player before 1 July, I expect that they’d have to be offering a fee up above the already pretty lofty release clause.
Kim to Bayern
Rice to Arsenal
Caicedo looking like going to Chelsea
Kane staying
Atalanta wanting loads of cash for that unknown kid now
Chelsea wanting more for Mount
Glazers won’t fckin sell up
FFS just want this pre season and next season to be over

It makes zero sense for anyone to pay more than absolutely necessary to secure him before the release clause comes in, especially given its still pre season, unless Napoli decide to save themselves 6 weeks of his wages by selling for the release clause price before it comes into play.

Or he might prefer to play in the PL.
Or he might not want to live in Germany.
Or he might prefer the role and sporting project he has been sold by United.
Or, you know, the two parties might be offering different money.
This won’t happen under the Qataris they’ll just buy bayern and loan him back. Same with Mbappe and Kane, they’ll buy those clubs too.

why would anybody choose to live in the UK right now if they had a choice, let alone being a multi-millionaire?
Even if he does go to Bayern he's not the only defender in the world there are others we'll be looking at!
The UK might be a mess but I’m pretty sure you can still live a very good life if you’re a multimillionaire, it’s not as if footballers do much.
Think Forza said that he wants the quiet life and he doesn’t really get that in Naples.
On the UK vs Germany question, echoing 1982's point, I think we need to acknowledge that things look very different for elite multimillionaire athletes than they do to us.
Footballers tend to lead lives that are insulated from much of the rest of the world. They exist in a kind of opulent gated community: where they live, where they conduct their leisure activities. They aren't particularly impacted by the vibe of the city, unless they really want to experience it. They aren't impacted by the things like bureaucracy and infrastructure that make quality of life in some cities / countries much better for people like us. If it's a footballer who likes cultural activities, they aren't limited to the music scene or museums of the city they live in. I haven't seen much evidence that footballers are swayed by the political culture of the country they choose to work in: Brexit doesn't seem to have put off Continental Europeans from joining the PL; beheading g@ys and journalists doesn't seem to be a red line for many either (and anyway, the prospects of another Tory election victory seem remote).
Also, I guess for Koreans, the English language is more widely known, English-speaking culture is more accessible, and the PL more high-profile.

Disappointing.
I just hope the sale of the club isn’t hindering our ability to talk to targets with personal terms offered and convincing them to join. Sounds like we’ve had no issues with that regarding Mount so hopefully it’s just down the Kim preferring Bayern over us which is disappointing but understandable.
I know Bayern had sacked Kahn and Salihamidzic only a couple weeks ago. I’m assuming they’ve been replaced already if they’re able to speak to potential transfer targets.
