I don't think Watkins is anywhere near the bottom of the barrel; he's a decent player. And he can perform away from home as well, which would immediately make him one of our more important players.

Not necessarily Watkins but I think someone like Saha who was never considered top rate when we bought him who can bring others into attack will massively improve us. Admittedly he had Rooney and Ronaldo either side of him which helped a bit but still, a striker with good pace, movement and link up play who isn’t going to get you 20+ goals can still make a huge difference.

Either as we desperately need a striker and if not Kane it’s slim pickings out there

That’s probably why the club were hoping to sign Harry Kane, who’s stats are roughly twice as good as Watkins

Watkins is a massive step up on Weghorst and would add goals to the other very good stuff we showed this past season

I don't think Watkins is a great finisher. Misses a lot of chances from what I've seen. But he's obviously improved under Emery and is a good player. Compared to Kane though there's a huge difference between 1st and 2nd prize.

Being a massive step up from Weghorst is not a reason to sign anyone.

And no, Watkins is not the answer. He would cost too much for so little.
