The next James Bond

^^ Correction.

"You only live Twice" sets the story up for "The man with the Golden Gun."

An amnesiac Bond travels to Russia where he's kidnapped, brainwashed, and then sent back to England to kill the Prime Minister.

I disagreed with the end of the last film. But pretending he didn't die would be catastrophically stupid. Just start the franchise again, with a different slant, whatever that may be.

my favourite Bond films and the only ones that interest me these days are the one Roger Moore played, because he played it tongue in cheek and they were quite funny

Moonraker and Octopussy

My favourite ones

Someone once told me that by the time he played Bond, Roger Moore couldn't run. So before a scene the director was telling him to run across the set in a certain way, and he said no, he physically couldn't run.

I’m confused. Don’t people realise that they’ll just reboot the whole Bond franchise? The Craig ‘universe’ is over so they’ll just recast everyone and start again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's only a matter of time before they inevitably cash in on a prequel movie series.

Every major print and movie franchise ends up doing it at some point.

They've already published about 10 post-Fleming novels set in the 1930s during his time at Eton.

No James Bond has ever died before though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Technically, no one really saw him die.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Correct. So whats the plot to get him out alive I wonder.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't remember all the details, but Ian Fleming wrote a somewhat similar story arc in YOLT.

Bond suffers a blow to the head in an explosion after killing Blofeld, loses his memory, washes up on a beach and settles down to married life as a Japanese fisherman.

His new wife keeps the story hidden, while the rest of the world believes him dead; complete with an obituary appearing in the papers.

Later on, he then reads something about "Vladivostok" which triggers a fuzzy memory. Setting things up for "From Russia with Love".

----------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, I'll bite.

Eon have been "fvcking with the formula" with their casting decisions for 3 decades now. This data shows a cumulative rise in earnings with significant jumps any time a "controversial / non-traditional" casting decision is made.

Goldeneye - Casting a woman as "M". More than doubled the previous total earnings.

Die Another Day - A black woman as Bond's main love interest. ----A 20% spike in total earnings.

Casino Royale - A moody franchise reboot. Casting a short, stocky, blond-haired man as Bond. As well as having a black man as Felix Leiter (A throwback to the experimental casting in the non-Eon Bond movies). ---- A 40% spike in earnings over the previous movie. Flying in the face of all the anger and talk of boycotts.

Skyfall - Naomie Harris as Moneypenny. With "Q" as an openly gay government operative. -- Still holds the earnings record, almost double the previous movie. Similarly flying in the face of all the anger and talk of boycotts.

No time to die - Same casting choices as Skyfall. With Lashana Lynch as "007" leading to a key change in plot dynamics. --- Fourth highest earning movie worldwide in 2021, despite CoVid. Not to mention a coordinated right-wing smear campaign.

At this point, it seems the actual "winning formula" involves shaking things up every now and then.

Elba would have made a great Bond a few years back but isn’t he getting on a bit now? Maybe he is still capable of pulling it off. Not sure.

However James Bond has to be a bloke (colour isn’t an issue) otherwise it’s Jane Bond and a completely different franchise.

Bollix - if you are attributing success solely to these mildly interesting decisions. Maybe EON are guilty of making good films?

You'd probably get a better correlation with input budget.
