Things can change, but are unlikely to do so if we are afraid to ask difficult questions and hold people to account. If Henderson uses a platform in Saudi Arabia to advocate for LGBT rights, I'll applaud him for it.
They’re bidding £40m for Fabinho too, why can’t we sell our dross to this country??

In terms of quality, the Saudi league is currently ranked 58th in the world.
Let's be honest, other than ludicrous remuneration packages, there is absolutely no appeal.
Agents are lauging all the way to the bank.

On the down side he has to live in Saudi Arabia. Though he has been living in Liverpool so for the first time ever moving to Saudi is seen as a step up in terms of quality of life for women.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He lives in cheshire!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would any sane person with money live in Liverpool?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do know there are more area’s in Liverpool than the City Centre and inner city area’s like Toxteth?
Formby, Crosby, Hillside, Aughton and then over the Wirral there’s Caldy, Heswall, West Kirby.
Do the United and City players live in Moss side?

Henderson's words:
"I do believe when you see something that is clearly wrong and makes another human being feel excluded you should stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them. You also have a responsibility to educate yourself better around the challenges they experience.
That’s where my own position on homophobia in football is rooted. Before I’m a footballer, I’m a parent, a husband, a son, a brother and a friend to the people in my life who matter so much to me. The idea that any of them would feel excluded from playing or attending a football match, simply for being and identifying as who they are, blows my mind.
The idea they’d have to hide from it to be accepted? But that’s exactly how too many members of the LGBT+ community feel. We know this because they tell us. So we should listen, support them and work to make it better."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure what this has to do with him moving to be honest.
Maybe it's all part of the plan. Saudi Arabia appear to be moving in the right direction in terms of woman's right and LGBT, albeit slowly.
Their tourism "welcomes" LGBT visitors apparently.
I guess just don't throw that in their face in public and you'll be fine.
They won't be able to sustain their current strict laws if they're bringing huge western names into country every other week.
Things will change. Have faith.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s how I feel about the possible Qatari ownership, it will likely lead to things changing.
Also agree with RR that unless he’s going to be a leadership figure for human rights then it is somewhat hypocritical to go there and take their money given their record with LGBT.

I'd also challenge the idea that the existence of areas of social deprivation means a city is a dump. There are pockets of poverty in both rural and urban areas. The people who live in those areas are not trash and there are pros and cons to both city and country life. Personally, if I were a footballer at a London/ Liverpool/ Manchester club, I'd prefer to live in the city rather than in some mansion in Hertfordshire or Cheshire.
Better wages, better weather and a better quality of life.

They were talking about this on Talksport earlier. He comes out with £4m a year after tax and has a 2 year contract. So has £8m guaranteed income. In Saudi he would get a 3 year contract on £36.4m tax free = £109.2m.
Is he really going to risk missing out on £100m? The question is whether he is prepared to walk away from all that money in an effort to make the Euros squad. He might still get the chance to move next summer, but there is no guarantee. Big decision for the lad.

I am all for living in foreign lands and all for a change of pace and different lifestyles to experience but lets not go overboard. The 'quality' of life in Saudi would be far diminished compared to most of the western world and what westerners are used to.
As for the Saudi league, signings like this do it more damage than good. Pretty embarrassing.
Fair play to Henderson. He has to think of his family and 700k a week will sort him out for life.
All this bolloks about players 'thinking of the family' is feckin nonsense as well. Get a grip folks ffs.
The family are already set for life prior to a comical move like this ffs.
He only earns around £10m a year just from his contract with Liverpool, think of the family!
Tbf that money set's up his kids kids.
Saudis have trillions. They could spend a few billion this year and it wouldn't even make a difference.

Oh is that all. Yeah my bad. Bet he only dries like a Fiesta or something as well and probably mows the grass himself. And those poor kids, no chance of a gameboy or whatever it is they play these days.
Have to add as well, what kind of cant sets his kids up for life anyway? By all means get them a good education etc but to leave them enough money never to have to lift a finger would be pretty shocking parenting.
Wasn’t he one of the big promoters of LGBT inclusion also?

The country has changed in a big way.
The biggest difference is a blanket ban on public displays of romantic affection. You can go home and play with whatever hole you like in the privacy of your own home.
It's not a perfect country but in exchange its beating England in terms of safety and economic prosperity. The same goes for the UAE and Qatar.
Henderson won't regret it, the same as Ronaldo.

Yeah the poor lad and his family having to survive on £150k a week before now.
After endorsements etc, Hendo must be taking home £10m a year.
The concept that he's making this move for his family's security is a joke. He earns more in a week than 99% of the country do in a year!!
Apparently, the average wage of the top 10 earners in the UK is about £70k a year! Or about 3 days work for Hendo.
This is about pure greed, which is seemingly forgiven for footballers but attracts abuse and reproach in many other walks of life.
