y9u need to watch trent this season.
the signs are there that he is determined to turn this round
not the stupid haircut stuff
he's gone out after England and took not holidays to go work.
he's going to be ready to take this on this summer.
look at the preseason game.
trent no 6.
Bradley moved beside him, second half tsimikas moved to this slot from the other side.
3223 is here to stay.
It seems obvious to me that Virgil will be captain.
The captain role doesn't bother me we are stock full of national captains, still would rather Hendo stayed one more season.
There is a clear stand out. His name is VVD. I don't think he'd be too pleased if we snubbed him for the captaincy.

This 👍
I think the choice is as clear as can be. It's VVD.
It will likely be VVD but not sure he’s actually got it in him to be club captain.
Robertson would be another choice or even Salah.
My personal pick would be Alisson.
Got to be Van Dijk with Trent as Vice capt.
Itll be Virgil but hes not captain material for imo.I'd pref someone more determined less casual. I'd go for Robbo personally.
Really not sure how somebody who is a big influence in the dressing room, one of the best players in the world in his position, who organises his teammates and captains one of the best countries in the world isn't captain material.
Vvd. Might be the responsibilty he needs
Trent eventually.

The Dutch, for all their talent, have been poor for a while now and it's not strange that the captain gets most of the stick from frustrated people.
Goalkeepers don't always make the best captain as they can be isolated from play and I just don't see how Robbo is an option that can compete with VVD. He's the obvious choice and I think some people just like to be contrarian.

Probably because all the Dutch legends correctly call out how ineffective he is as captain. Lots of talk on the pitch but no leadership.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that's absolute nonsense. Talking on the pitch is certainly one way of showing leadership. All the times he has captained the club is another way he has shown leadership, as well as when he has captained his country. "All the Dutch legends"
Although coming from somebody who labels him Van Disney, it's hardly surprising that you talk absolute nonsense on the subject at hand.

Van Basten and Gullit agree with me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that's great. The opinion of two failed managers, Van Basten whose most awful decision was for the Dutch national team where he appeared to show jealously towards the players who were the top players, who were experienced and decorated and dropped the lot of them, including the likes of Davids and Seedorf and had numerous squabbles with players, including Van Nistelrooy who decided not to include himself for selection until he was gone. He also was awful at every club he managed. As was Gullet.
I'll take Klopp's, a multi-trophy winner manager at the top levels opinion over theirs thanks.

all comes down to this thing called an opinion and what you want from a captain or what you see as one For me Virgil isnt what i expect from a captain. Hes just had a shocker captaining his country too as he did playing for us last season where he went into his shell shirked responsibility and gave up that many times i lost count.
Idc how good he was in his prime some of the sheit i saw from him last season i'd have been throwing punches if he was on my team let alone my captain.
What about something from left field? Our youngest ever first team captain?

So who would you have ahead of him going by your standard that he had a shocker last season?
Other proposals like Robbo and TAA weren't any/much better than VVD.
This would make sense if he was the only one that dropped his standards, but he isn't, so why isolate him and hold him to that standard? He is still the best option IMO.
Cos as i said, the amount of times he gave up and the manner in which he defended/played, body language and attitude is all we have to go on as fans. We can all have poor form but as i said some of the stuff i saw from him in on the pitch is why i picked him out and wouldnt have him as my new captain if i had to pick. Also hes for his national team doesnt seem to be a great leader/captain either and is often dug out by the dutch for it.
Idk who i'd go for prob robbo has the best characteristics for it imo but preferably id prefer someone in the middle around the ref challenging every decision which is easier from central midfield. Our entire mf is going to be new though.
Anyway as i said itll prob be VVD and if it is i hope he steps up, we need a big season from him if we have any hope getting back to previous levels thats for sure.

That's your opinion tbh. His body language has always been like that IMO, even when we were on top. They don't call him a rolls Royce for nothin, and believing that he "gave up" is utterly ridiculous to me. How do you know he gave up? That's basically deciding to believe whatever you prefer as there can be no way to tell whether he gave up at any time.
A better more hardworking midfield will improve our defence more than VVD. What we need is Salah to go back to 30 goals in the league and someone to replace Mane's goals in the team.
I wouldn't mind it being Salah tbh but the refs and english football in general hate him...so it would have to be Van Dijk
Trent being captain now just puts him under the microscope even more
Robbo might be a decent choice too.
No media agenda against him. Big presence in dressing room if a little bit of a joker. Effort on the pitch if a little too hot headed, especially with refs.
Problem is his form flew completely under the radar last season. He's been showing signs of a decline...but the whole team was awful last season so this season will be the litmus test

Yes everyone can have an opinion. It just so happens his opinion is absolute rubbish and yours whilst not quite as rubbish is up there also. That's my thing called an opinion. Luckily Klopp's opinion won't be rubbish as his opinions win trophies at the top level. VVD is an outstanding captain. A leader both on and off the pitch. Calm under pressure and an organisational leader on the pitch. Going off form when the whole team suffered last season doesn't mean that all disappears. All players and teams go through bad patches and the best, like VVD come through them. A combination of a mental reset, physical recuperation, work on the training pitch and a few players brought in can easily see a return to the top, as we've seen before under Klopp.
Calling players names like Van Disney, saying you'd like to punch them because you have an opinion like players going through bad periods are not trying, especially when he'd fold you up and throw you like a discus, is just hyperbolic claptrap. So yeah, of course have an opinion but be prepared for said opinion to have a response.
