You have thought a striker, CB or midfielder would be a bigger priority unless they have a club for Meslier lined up?

I'd have thought LB is the biggest priority - but then there's a good case for those you mention too.

Maybe Meslier is the next to leave on loan.

Would suggest we have found a destination for Meslier. Can't see us signing Darlow as second choice. Nor can I see Meslier wanting a season on the bench in the championship.

Darlow should be cheap. No surprise we'd be able to get this done over other positions.

Probably. Hoping we get Woodman or Johansson to compete with him. We lost Robbles after all.
We paid 5 mil for Meslier and will make a decent profit if.sold for 20, so id rather we spent 5 on a mid 20's keeper with sell on value.

we got so lucky with Meslier. Casilla doesnt get banned and he would have finished loan and gone back to L'Orient

He's definitely coming as first choice. He could have gone to Bournemouth to sit on the bench. A year away on loan might do Meslier some good. He might come back a better keeper.

Love the optimism…I can’t see any club paying anywhere near £20m, be lucky to get half that.

I don’t feel so lucky to have had Meslier. Over-rated by Leeds fans. There’s more to keeping than athletic saves. He was cut plenty of slack for being young. Fair enough, but reality is we needed better. He obviously lost confidence but he had one of the worst shot:saves % in the prem last year… before you start on the cross flapping and distribution. If anyone still wants our rough diamond as a prospect, we should bite their hands off.

If this is true, count me as happy. Darlow will be first choice for sure. Hammond blueprint. Build from the back forward. Ampadu, Darlow. Which means RCB
And left back next.

… yes I’ve heard that one, and a better coach may have helped. Likewise not having the keystone cops lining up in defence in front of him.

Shouldn’t need a coach to tell him where his near post is though.

Hard to get too excited by Darlow though. Career understudy. It’s a job a lot of keepers have to take to… but it often means they’re the ones happy taking a salary rather than proving themselves (often at a lower level). Hey it’s a box ticked if it happens.

Let's face it, Robles should have been in the side long before the arrival of Allardyce. He didn't do anything spectacular but didn't make the glaring, stupid mistakes which had become commonplace for Meslier.

The lad's got talent but became complacent. It was the case even before the departure of Bielsa.

Ask the Newcastle supporters about Darlot.
They are not overimpressed

Its always easy blaming the keeper, but even with Bielsa the defense was a problem!..

Feels like a good signing for me

Has proven good in this league was it forest and Newcastle unless I'm confusing myself

Would much rather a British experienced keeper at this level who knows the league

What we need from a keeper more than the occasional fancy moment is steady 7 out of 10, few mistakes and promotes confidence in the defence.

We went down last year because our keeper couldn't do that and our striker couldn't score

Not really.

Sell Aaronson, Koch, Rasmus and roca and we should get 10/15 for rodrigo and will easily fund that lot.
