One of the difficult things about this is the idea that "great 80s songs" and "great songs from the 80s" might not always be the same thing. Some top bands probably have album tracks that fall into the latter category but the former might mean those iconic 80s tracks.
I'll have a go at the former, but it could easily be five different ones in an hour, and then again in another hour...
Africa - Toto
Down Under - Men at Work
Heaven is a Place on Earth - Belinda Carlisle
The Power of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Little Lies - Fleetwood Mac (arguably the greatest song ever written)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Africa by Toto is one of the worst and most pretentious/offensive songs ever written.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok that’s twice you’ve said it so you must feel strongly, can you please elaborate?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, they say that they bless the rains down in Africa way more than once but we're not complaining about that.

I have a soft spot for Dire Straits, UB40, ELO, and The Jam because that's what my Dad played.

There are a few from the 80’s…
Eyes Without A Face (Billy Idol), Say Hello, Wave Goodbye (Marc Almond’s group-I can’t remember who), Forever Young (Alphaville), Walking On The Chinese Wall (Philip Bailey) & Tougher Than The Rest (Bruce Springsteen-I’m not a fan of his though).
This wasn’t ‘my era’ though.
