Supposedly PSG have put in an official bid (lower than ours) and have begun talks with the player.

I read something yesterday that he prefers a move to United over PSG. And apparently we have already agreed terms with the player. But who knows for sure?

It's handy for Atalanta and the player that the PSG story has come out. Just his agent working for his client to state he has different options if United don't hurry up.

posted on 27/7/23

Yeah I’ve read he’s agreed terms with us but I guess he’ll still be open to other options. Odd that PSG have offered less, but like you say who knows, probably RDD.

He probably doesn't believe that we are even interested in him.

Yeh, would be odd if PSG have offered less than our bid.

One thing that was perfectly clear from last night is that we can not go into the new season without a striker.

No idea if this kid will make it but we need someone.

Is Martial still out injured VC?

Back in training and on the tour but he's a week or more behind everyone now.

Not that we can rely on him anyway. Good player when he's fit but that's hardly ever the case.

Would be criminal to go into the new season without him being integrated into the team, sounds like it’s just a few million apart now, and personal terms etc all done a while back.

Yeh, definitely need to play without him. If he is availabe for some of the last year of his contract then great, but he can't be relied upon.

Yeh, I don't think we are too far apart from what the reports say. Confident that it will get done. Be nice to move Fred, Harry and McT on too and maybe get another CM in.

See a quote yesterday that fenerbahce were looking at signing him, fingers crossed and all that

We’d need to hope the medical staff are fckin useless at any club we sell Martial to, he’d never pass otherwise.

The Martial paradox

August - ‘Hopefully he can stay fit as he’s very talented’

October - Scores a couple of goals against Fulham, people get carried away

November - Walks off the field with what looks like a minor injury.

February - People ask why he hasn’t returned yet.

May - Scores a couple of goals against Bournemouth and the cycle repeats.

So true. This should be his last season at the club.

If we could move him on I wouldn't be against Hugill coming into the squad as backup.

Only team that will pay a fee for Martial and/or his full wage are the Saudis imo.

posted on 27/7/23

We need to keep Martial, even if he can only get 15 or so starts.

Hojlund will be raw and rashy is better on the left

I agree.

Unless someone is foolish to offer a fee for him.

posted on 27/7/23

Even if Hojlund might one day be good he’s nowhere near ready enough to join us and be starting every week as a #9. He’s the type of guy you buy to be a squad striker and comes in to build his confidence when the main guy is out or rested. Hopefully if we get him and he predictably struggles to hit the ground running we go and get Toney in a season rescue mission in Jan

posted on 27/7/23

Ideally we sell Martial to the Saudis and bring in a back up that is far more reliable but that's unlikely to happen. Even though Martial is on big wages, makes sense to keep him as a back up if we can't replace him.

I think we'll sell as least one of Fred (Gala or Fulham) or McTominay (no idea where) and bring in a replacement (most likely Amrabat). Would love to move on Maguire and bring in a young back up who has the potential to improve a lot and still chip in with a few apperances this season but that's not gonna happen sadly.

Yeh I think it would probably be best. Ideally Martial is fit soon and can start the season and is gradually phased out throughout the season as his injuries become more frequent.

Rob

If reports were correct about EtH wanting a first choice striker and a young back up one then you'd think Hojlund was originally one of the young back up options. But obviously targets have changed and we've had to compromise when other areas also needed fixing.

It is a huge ask for a young lad but he can't be any worse than Weghorst and hopefully he can also bring in others into attack and help spread the goals while he's still finding his feet.
