I'm afraid I think you're right, bar maybe signing Byram.
Yes, rightly or wrongly I've taken Byram as a given, otherwise pointless using him in pre season.
Totally agree, we need to bring in players that not only want to be at the club but are good enough to get us out of this division.
Our squad has too many untried juniors instead of seasoned professionals at this level.
There is still a month to go before the window closes so a few inspired purchases wouldn't go a miss

Sure, but by then, 4 league games up for grabs (let’s hope we do well and get lions share of 12 points) and a place in the next round of the League Cup (let’s hope we get into the next round).
I wanted us to hit the ground running and was looking forward to all these ‘signings ready to drop’ coming in.
Its been a disgraceful window. The only positives are weve lost fewer of our star players than expected .... for now.
How hard is it though, to sign a left back from one of the 2000 professional football teams on earth who is as good as Firpo at least? Why can't we sign the best left back in the championship? Or the 2nd best, 3rd best, 4th best? The best in League 1? Etc etc. Pathetic running of a football club playing centre backs and right backs at left back.

Logically, it can only be for a few possible reasons (and/or):
(1) We can’t afford it.
(2) We can’t generate any money out of player sales.
(3) We can’t interest enough players to join us.
(4) The board are incompetent chancers (again).

Was literally going to post something similar ie what's needed to sign a player.
There are loads of players out there, we're supposed to be big revenue club for this division and now with hugely wealthy owners.
For me its pointing to lack of money and/or completely different priorities.
It is twitter rumours but Nat Phillips deal looks to be close.
We need for me:
A striker
A Left back
Central/attacking Midfielder
Striker
I expect some of these will be made up in loans.
Cant understand why we are prioritising a central defender over a striker.
Sorry not two strikers! One should say centre back!
Squad is totally inbalanced AGAIN.
Need to shift two wingers
Then sign
Left back
striker
Midfielder
Centre half
Need a proper 10 if we're going to persist with the same formation for the 5th season in a row.
Re Wakey's and Shaun's comments - same issues just plain deja vu over and over again.
The striker issue is what gets me. We got lucky and stayed up a year ago because we didn’t buy a proper striker in January 2021. 2 and a half years here we are.
Only Leeds could do this. Literally no other club

Rumours of buying William's, young left-back from schum who Farke had at Norwich. Sounds like lazy journalism to me when everything points to Byram getting a contract.
Striker, centre-half & no 10 for me if Byram's signing. Nowt wrong with Hjelde at this level.

We needed one even before promotion. Hence the Augustin debacle.
I've just had a quick look at the EFL FFP thresholds which atm is that each club is allowed to make a net spend of no more than £39 million ovet a 3 year period on transfers... Therefore parachute payments although very useful for player wages doesn't help increase the budget you have to spend on new signings nor does the personal wealth of the club's owners as you and all the other EFL clubs have to stick to the FFP rules.
I think Leeds are trying not to go too far over a net average spend of £13 million per season and so far with the ins and outs of players I reckon we're at a net spend of about £4 million leaving us £9 million if we want to keep within the yearly average and don't sell anyone else but obviously if we can sell a player for15 to 20 million that will help Farke considerably.
We could always just spend more than the threshold allows this year and hope we get promoted like QPR who did a net spent way over what was allowed and got a £42 million fine but escaped the EFL points deduction because the EFL couldn't enforce it in the Premier league but I'm not too sure whether that's still the case now and you don't just get off with a fine now if you break EFL FFP rules and get promoted but you still could get a points deduction in the PL.
Therefore I prefer to think this is why there has been slow progress in transfers and why Farke was so publicly frustrated at the 5 or 6 players leaving for nothing that we would have got under normal circumstances at least £30 million for the lot then I'm certain we'd have signed a few more that we need by now and probably explains why Leicester with Barnes and Maddison money have blown us out the water.

This is not correct.
It’s not that you can only spend 39m on transfers over 3 years it’s that you can’t make losses higher than 39m over 3 years.
Nice one Macca, that all seems quite plausible. Doesn't reassure me much but at least I am slightly less fearful with regard to the competence of the new administration. The last thing we need right now is "unsafe hands" and Jonty's relentlessly fear-inducing posts are unsettling, not least because he makes some good points. The situation is far from clear. The clock is ticking. The gap between expectations and what's apparently happening (or not) is very great.
I've got an intuition that things are not as bad as they seem and that we will at least compete this season, unlike 2022-23, based purely on the Farke appointment.
Bring it on!
Sorry but unless we sign a striker can see it being the same old story of missed chance after missed chance.
Doesnt work that way Macca
And i think we have over £50m deficit on player transfer this season.
Need to sell and sell big
