Well tennis was obviously Scottish
Boxing is all nations as is athletics

Maybe make a reference to which British nation alongside the points in the op.

For such a small country that spreads ourselves over so many sports (footy, rugby, tennis, cricket, golf and others)
We overachieve at nearly every level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Overachieving at League B level nations league is hardly something to boast about. It is a case of overachieving at a crap level due to underachieving at the top level. Like if Man U or Liverpool were in the Championship but claiming to be the best team in the country cos they got 100 points in that league.
As for rugby. Scotland have won the last 3 matches between Scotland and England. England have won once since 2017.
And if you are going to talk about cricket where only really England and a couple of other nations play it, then we might as well discuss curling, shinty etc. where Scotland are world and olympic champions.
So to summarise, Scotland better than England at all sports apart from cricket, where England are almost as good as the other nation in the world that plays it.
Wales good at farming and having worse mountains than Scotland, but generally better than England in every way.
Northern Ireland is just Ireland. Doesn't count.
Golf - Underachieve in this like the tennis. We have decent players who rarely get it over the line at a major when they are there or thereabouts near the pole position.
Boxing - Pretty good but many of our top ones have let us down recently - Fury, Joshua, Joyce, Okolie etc. Not many around now who come close to Lennox or Calzaghe.

You're English, and you support everyone in Britain? Fair enough.
There is a good mixture of people who support all British teams and those who support only the country they're from.
Just because we're on the same island doesn't mean we have to support them in sports. I certainly only support England.
Do Netherlands support Belgium in sports, visa versa?
Slightly off-topic, but I'm interested in how much people here care about their national teams across the range of sports. I tend to find that if it's a sport I'm really into (above all football), I'm properly invested in the national team. If it's a sport I don't especially follow, I might arbitrary root for the foreign side, especially if they are the underdog. If it's somewhere in the middle, like cricket, I kind of want them to beat Australia but don't really care if it's anyone else. If it's an individual sport like tennis, it's governed by what I think of the players themselves, not their nationality, for instance I've always liked Andy Murray but never felt affinity with Tim Henman (maybe a bit unfairly: was alienated by the plummy "Come on Tim" Wimbledon set).

I'm certainly not anti-English but it is an annoyance of mine how Britain and England are so interchangeable. We even play England in the rugby tomorrow (two mediocre teams really!) so we want clarity in the OP!
Baz - if that's what's being discussed then yes. Barry would probably state Scotland are the best football team on the British Isles anyway!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t take what you said as anti English or anything, thought you had a point as the OP (who I don’t think deliberately)) did pretty much list English sports achievements more or less.
Didn't they have a Darts World Cup once and England even lost at that?
I am Scottish but I don't think anyone on here could say that I don't treat the English with the level of respect that they deserve.

I know you wouldn't think that. I also don't think the OP did it deliberately either. In my opinion anyway it's much easier supporting 'Britain' if you're English as there is not much difference when the cultures are described.

I want all of our sportspeople and teams here to do well because if they do it raises the profile of the country. Quite often internationally we're somewhat hidden away under the GB/UK banner that when one of us wins it brings about a pride seeing the flag and hearing the anthem being played.

Considering we invented half the sports we're pretty rubbish at them. I find we're best at the ones where we get to sit down - F1, horse racing and dancing, rowing, cycling. I don't know if that says something about our lazy culture.
As far as the big global team and individual sports we underachieve in most of them.
Rugby - only won 1 World Cup compared to New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
Cricket - fluked a WC against New Zealand but still behind some of the biggest countries.
Tennis - Our record of major wins in recent years is pretty abysmal considering we hold one of the slams. Apart from Murray, our women and men tend to be hyped up journeymen/women that don't deliver success.
Football - Don't need to talk about how much our men have underachieved on an international level. It's embarrassing. Maybe turning a corner with our youth levels finding success? Don't tend to produce enough world class players or managers but perhaps again there are signs of this changing, as far as players go anyway.
Olympics - Been excellent the last few Olympics and turned it around from our often average to shocking performances (one gold in 1996).

You may be interested to know that tomorrow the largest festival of competitive music and poetry in Europe starts here. It's held every year.
There's been a recent fuss about it because of this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-65952898.
Some have criticised the organisers for not relaxing the rules but I think they were quite right to stand firm. The whole point is the celebrate the heritage and culture through the medium of the language. Once exceptions are made that can then dilute the whole point. As someone who has competed in these in the past I think it's a tradition worth keeping.
The point I'm making with this is that it could be seen as a major 'British' festival but I'm willing to bet most on here wouldn't know much about it. Why would they in all fairness? You may have noticed that it's an annoyance of mine when people conflate UK/GB and England. I'm hoping it doesn't come across as anti-English this because I'm certainly not that. It's just annoying that's all!

I don't think it is that far me though. If people mean England by all means say it. That's OK!
Even the UK Gov do it (and it causes me headaches on a daily basis) when they announce a new policy via the PM or high up ministers but don't explain that it's just for England really as the devolved nations have different policies and practices.
The Tories here are hilarious. The heavily criticise any policy here thought up by Labour Gov but then, when that policy is replicated in Tory areas in England, they hastily backtrack and/or are sent social media messages calling them hypocrites. It makes me laugh anyway!

Maybe make a reference to which British nation alongside the points in the op.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I clearly didn't understand how divided we are when it comes to sport. I support the Welsh, N Irish and Scottish in all sports. Maybe the anti English is more prevalent than I thought <hmm>
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're English, and you support everyone in Britain?

Which British teams are we talking about here?
This is mainly an English list but I'll just put it in there that my country are world champions at Darts!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well tennis was obviously Scottish
Boxing is all nations as is athletics
Golf is Irish
Not sure what your point is??

Please let me know which part of that is anti-English?
