Probably trebles his salary and ensures he’s still playing at the highest level.

Leaves us massively short in CM. Yesterdays duo isn’t enough to get us promoted.

Also brings in £20M

Nat Phillips rumors, there's one that'll make us a little stronger if it goes through!..

And the usual Cardif crap that people go on about, it might be they're not as bad as some make out!..

2 debut goals for Cardiff - good recruitment, Bowler looked good.

And cost effective considering under a transfer embArgo.

So let’s stop using ffp as an excuse.

Very unbalanced squad. Seems ridiculous to have to start the season before the team is even formed. Played a game and still not sure who's coming in but more importantly who going out.
Farkes the man. Imo he'll get it right if the 49ers pull their weight. Not so sure about them but no point jumping to conclusions.
For me more worrying than not having a striker is not having a defence.
Cresswell looks the real deal but we need minimum two cbs. Not a popular idea but cooper can go. We need to get some defenders that can continue on to the pl after we get promoted. An almost complete
overhaul of the defence needed
There wouldn't be any bitching about bamford if we won two nil.
Defence first, striker second.
Clean sheets in games we dominate are essential.

The glaring thing yesterday was the fullbacks.

Ayling was awful, the guy is a seasoned professional, he shouldn't be getting pulled around that badly and hjelde dosent look like a long term solution at left back by any stretch of the imagination.

It was very notable that the defense improves massively once you had a player in it who has played in that system before.

James first half was awful, second half he was much, much better and that was down to Byram allowing him to get into the game more.

For me Byram has to start.

We are now down to two centrebacks is it?

For me we need (and this list is in order of importance

Centre back
Striker
Left back
Central midfielder (this moves above leftback if Adams goes)

It's a long, long championship season but we have to start strong

Mont it's not popular but I to feel a clean slate is required with all Championship Winning remnants gone.

Ruthless but that's professional footy.

Commentators on game yesterday mentioned that Mancini told Gnonto that he won't play for Italy unless he's playing for a team in the top division.

Disgraceful of Mancini if true and makes it very tough to keep Gnonto.

Actually feel Sini, Cry and Wilf are all too good for this league.

I find it strange that people say that ( it may be true) but the same people (not pointing my finger at Rev W) often then complain about the quality we buy in. How can we win promotion if we only buy players that only good enough for the league we are in.

Fair enough but my point is all 3 may be gone by 1st September, certainly Wilf and maybe Cry.

Commentators on game yesterday

They know nowt!

They said we wanted to sell Gnonto for 15m. Then we hear we turned that down quite recently

Why?

He wants his player to develop and feels he’d develop better against higher calibre opposition.

Re Cooper I think we can do better of course but getting rid now leaves us hugely short of experience abd leadership at back.

Cresswell wandered forwards with ball at one point and was robbed I think he’s still inexperienced at this level and needs more experience next to him to develop. Don’t think Struijk would provide that experience.

Djed Spence supposedly transfer listed! He would be very nice

In fact if it wasn't for Reading being deducted points last season, Cardiff would have been in L1 now ! It is a concern we nearly lost at home to them.

Seen a lot of criticism for Ayling. Just don't see it. Yes, there's a lot of space behind him for the goal, but that's because Farke is asking him to ostensibly play as an extra winger. Think it was a lapse in concentration from the players meant to be covering that space (Struijk and Gray).

It will take a while for the tactical system to bed in, and we aren't helped by makeshift options at RCB (the importance of which should be highlighted by the palpable difference between us with Cresswell there vs Struijk), LB (Hjelde was awful, he just isn't suited for that position at all), and striker.

We were much better second half. Much more balanced with players knowing what they were meant to be doing. Play like that and we will be fine.

There is a lot of over the top criticism on these pages about yesterday's performance. I thought we were decent, obviously two massive errors but 9/10 times we play that match we win. Not saying there aren't issues btw a CB, CM and LB are needed. I think all though squad imbalanced atm, I think it is easily fixable and no need to panic.

Thought the team played well, bar the 2 obvious glaring moments. Given 1st game of the season and new players, coach and everything else .... it was okay, clearly could, probably should, have won. Bit inbalanced - 4 wingers running round eventually wore Cardiff down ... we need a more natural frontman, I thought that was clear.

Luke - agree with Lubo. He's not the long term option, but I thought he was playing as coached/instructed.

I'm more frustrated that we've kicked off the season and the starting line up is far from settled. Window should've closed before the Soton game Friday night.

Interesting point that, we looked far better when Cresswell came on, he made one mistake but he'd never played the system before. I think the real issue in the first half was Ayling being asked to play further forward as pointed out by others and having two left footed CB's behind him.
Farke seemed to partially address that at h/t by dropping Bill a bit further back and then, additionally Cooper's injury meant we had a right and left footed CB. I don't rate Struijk but he looks much improved under Farke
Coops in the first half had to work overtime because the worst player on the pitch was Hjelde, I am not one to criticise the kids but he's a mile off. I was highly critical of James but he was much improved, as were the whole team when Sam came on.

Spot on! So many blaming Ayling for the first goal who have failed to see how we lined up.

posted on 7/8/23

No people know exactly how we’ve lined up. Also know that he was playing slightly higher, but certainly no higher than Bielsa says. Defensively Ayling has been absolutely shocking - he cost us many goals in that spell of 7/8 games when we conceded a lot -
And some of that was under Fat Sam’s park the bus tactics.

---------------Meslier
------Struijk-----------Cooper
------Gray--------------Ampadu
-------------------------------------Hjelde
Ayling---Sini---Cree---Gnonto-----------James

This is me articulating how I viewed the formation first half. Its a poor set-up. There's the obvious lack of balance, not helped by out of position players. Felt like a few that didn't really understand where they were meant to be operating. Much better in the second.

------------------Meslier
-------Cresswell------Struijk
---------Gray---------Ampadu
Ayling--------Summerville-----Byram
--------Sinisterra------------James
-----------------Gnonto

Far more balance to that, and its helped by having a LWB who understands the position they need to hold, and having players that are more effectively able to quickly play the ball out of the back 2.
