Michael Salisbury, from Lancashire, has been left off this weekends match list after failing to give a penalty against a Lancashire football team.
Surely it is possible to find officials not local to one of the teams playing.
It doesn't help that half of all refs seem to come from Manchester.
I have no doubt they try to be unbiased but I imagine subconsciously it must be tough.
I think VAR has actually made it easier for officials to manipulate games - with the :clear and obvious" get out being the worst thing to happen to the rules.

Michael Lancashire from Salisbury would have been better. He'd have given it as it was a stonehenge penalty.

Tbf Salisburys last horror shows was Brighton v Spurs where he cost the Seagulls, so at least you can't accuse him of favouring one of Englands top clubs over the smaller clubs

Great banter, but it does highlight how inept he must be. Two incredibly blatant penalties not awarded. I don't buy in to the corruption claims.
Fair play to John Moss for admitting the error and stepping down the refs from last night.
Hopefully it will encourage all refs not to make a pigs ear of easy decisions.

They should suspend Mancunian players that play for other teams from playing against Liverpool because they try harder
How anybody could look at last nights incident with the benefit of slow motion and different camera angles and decide it wasn't a pen is beyond belief. Surely the easiest fouls to give are when a player (any player) misses the ball and clatters an opponent?
The only 2 possibilities are that the VAR operator is corrupt or stupid.
I gave up on it after a pen wasn’t given for Trents blatant push on Sessegnon at the Lane last season. The ref couldn't have seen the push from his position so it was an ideal opportunity for VAR to help him out and do its job but instead they let it go.
As I said last night it's not VAR that's the problem it's the cants who work it.
Refs are like the mafia. They decide who wins games and if you have a problem with that then tough and you end up with a fine or ban.

But if two senior officials knew immediately then why not the VAR? I get the ref can miss stuff in the heat and speed of the game. For VAR to not even invite the ref to review and take time to discuss the interpretation amongst the whole team was incredulous.

As I've said, it appears to be linked to the "clear and obvious error" wording. The VAR guy can think the ref made an error but not one that was clear and obvious enough to intervene. So if he thinks it's an error but not a howler, he might choose to let the onfield decision stand. It's silly if that's the case, but there you are.
