This Casemiro narrative was always in play but his performances last season shut everyone up.
Now after 1 game and a slightly more attacking midfield line-up, he's looking a bit more exposed and that is not playing to his strengths. You could see vs Wolves that aggressive running through the midfield exposed him & your setup.
As a more general comment, my observations are that United continue to struggle to find the balance right in wanting to play a more expansive attacking game. Under Ole you did well but largely playing counter attacking football, when he tried to be more expansive it didnt work so well.
ETH seems to be having a similar ride. Last season you were not a pure counter attacking team but that's where a lot of your success came from and you were comfortably the lowest scores in the top 6. A more high press, more bodies in support of the front three, FBs pushing on exposes Casemiro. To me Mopunt was an odd choice for CM as he's more attack minded without be the sort of dynamic box to box athlete that was probably needed. Caicedo was the sort of player you needed IMO and I think you might start to see Mount being pushed out wide right if Antony doesnt up his game to the next level.

At lot of United fans on Twitter using Casemiro’s trophy cabinet to say he’s currently better than Rice or Caicedo. That’s not the argument here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is as good a reason as any to why people shouldn’t read twitter. Essential 99% of those on there are idiots
Clue is in the first 4 letters
"He looks several years older than last season" etc...
How much was his poor performance and "heavy legs" down to the team not performing against Wolves?

United throughout the team vs Wolves looked like they had just stepped ofa plane from Ibiza from a summer long stag do late the night before. They were all blowing out of their arzes. The Wolves players were just marching through the spine of the United team at will. We didnt get any players, even Cass, anywhere near them. However we still managed to win.
It will take United 2 or 3 PL games to get up to match fitness to compete as we can. We move on to Spurs.
during his last season at Madrid he looked that a player in decline tbh
Brazilians always take longer to get back to fitness after preseason. Give him a couple.more weeks and he'll be back to last seasons level.

Maybe, but João Pedro, Alisson, Bruno Guimarães, Joelinton, Martinelli etc seem to be OK.

Its just United who seem to think preseason tours are a money making media appearing jolly.
Not hard work.

presumably we mean the level not of the beginning of last season (when he was getting up to speed), nor the end (when he was frequently lethargic and sloppy), nor of that bit in the middle when he missed 7-8 games through suspension, but of last season when not unfit/gassed/suspended?
I wouldn’t write him off yet, but you see the likes of Caicedo and Lavia moving to “big” clubs and I do wonder why we’ve not gone for that type of player - tough tackler, strong on the ball, good engine etc.
Even Lemina looked decent on Monday!
Really think we need a similar player to help Casemiro out in some games.
Like big Phil Neville against arsenal
I hope (certainly) that we will get another good season out of Casemiro, next year it's probably time to address his place in the team, having seen the likes of Rice and Caicedo going to rivals.
----------------------------------------------
It would've probably made more sense to address the midfield properly with two younger signings last summer instead of creating yet another problem for ourselves down the line in the short term.
As much as I like Casemiro and as much as we were missing things that he provides, I think we'd have been better off signing a cheaper holding midfielder and investing more money into a progressive midfielder who has a basic understanding of defensive positioning. It baffles me that we are still yet to acquire this type of player under Ten Hag given he has now had two summer windows to do so.
This has been an issue under so many different managers, failing to identify the correct midfield profiles that compliment each other. We seem totally inept when it comes to building a well-functioning midfield that's ready to compete for years to come.
No need for all the fuss to be frank.
He was only ever intended to be a stop gap anyway.
And it was just a small part in his personal retirement pension plan.
There are better out there, and they're younger.
He should not be considered a starter at this club.
RR:
- When he joined last summer, seasoned Real Madrid watchers remarked that Casemiro has a tendency to start seasons in mediocre form and then pick up momentum.

This is correct. Of course, the older he gets, the likelier it becomes that one year he'll be unable to pick up the pace, but it's impossible to say one game into the season.
Media outlets including Jamie Carragher is starting to write Casemiro off.
Carragher wrote Lisandro Martinez off last season then looked a clown

I don’t think Casemiro was bad at all. It was just Wolves exploited us due to us thinking they will just sit back all game like last season. I think if we had more men back the issues we had would have been resolved. We should have instead played on the counter.
