Agreed, a lot of hype with him but any time I've seen him, which isn't that much to be fair, he's looked a bit meh. Reading that the club have 'changed their stance' on him which suggests they might think he won't make it with us.

we are in the worst possible place to promote youth players sadly.
the risk of giving youngsters a chance when you have to win every week is too great.
we managed it with tierney and mcgregor, but they got settled without the threat of rangers in the league.
on paper its great, the reality is that we need to be more ballsy.
I'd give youngsters a run at the league cup.

I'd say the same for Lawal - looks painfully slow every time I've seen him play, but he seems to be rated.
Just more the point around giving these guys a chance to actually play and do something for the 1st team. Think as JFK says the risk factor in winning all the time makes it harder.
But surely guys who we think have a chance, starting them at home games against the weakest sides in the league can't affect the balance of the team too much?

I can’t think of many youth players that we’ve ‘lost’ to other teams that have gone on to have stellar careers elsewhere though. Doak looks like he might, but apart from that I can’t think of many others.

Wh what about McCarthy?? What's he doing now ??
I suspect Liam Morrison , Hepburn and Doak will all go on to
Good things I
Harper in the states is meant to be a good player
For any academy it's difficult, you're essentially trying to produce a CL level player
I think alot of it is luck
Certainly with Mcgregor and Tierney it was

Hickey is the obvious one.
Morry had a bad injury - see how he gets on loan at Wigan but highly rated.
Doaky will be fine.
Hepburn, not so sure. There's reasons the club didn't fight to keep him.
Y'all missed out the highest paid success of them all - Jack Hendry! £15m pa?

Robertson was allegedly let go because we felt he was too small. Hickey-don’t know. Of the others, they’ve still to achieve anything apart from Doak so far.
I’d rather we got to see them for ourselves and see what they can do, but so far there’s only 2 players from the last 15 years or so that you can genuinely say we should have kept-and one left through our decision. I suspect Doak will make that 3, but again, Ange gave him his debut but the story was he was keen to leave for development and the money on offer.

The club tactics are well known - blow smoke up their @rse to get them to sign. Would Ange have played Doak otherwise - doubtful? Mind Rodgers had Kade playing in the reserves at 13 or whatever? Mind when he was given a few first team outings to get him to sign?
Money is so great elsewhere and clubs willing to stockpile youngsters for comparatively little it is a new way to move, carry on developing but earn more in the meantime, maybe learn a language, and in case your career comes to nothing. If Hepburn never gets any higher than signing at QP then it is maybe all he was ever going to reach anyway but in the meantime he should have banked a few bob and had an experience.
Hickey was miserable at Celtic. Continually not making the team. He and his Da just wanted him to enjoy it again and he'd been happy at Hearts before hence the speculative call back there. He then got the smoke treatment but took the view that if he wasn't getting a game with the 2002s he wasn't getting a look in when it went to U18s mixed with the 2001s. The injury crisis at Hearts that got him a break was probably a bit of luck but he took it.
And look where Kade is now. I think the bigger issue is that the youths just haven’t been that great.

I get that but he did absolutely nothing in a first team Jersey at Celtic.
A lot of hype about nothing. Same as vata.
Indeed an absolute standout until he was 16/17. Club indulged him right up until he signed his first contract to a laughable extent. Sickening for his team mates. His old man always was wary after the way they treated his older brother but they did the full smoke blow with Brendan and that was that.
