The vast vast majority of people I’ve seen online desperate for Greenwood to come back are African fans (or fans with African names as I guess you can never 100% tell who’s trolling online). A strange phenomenon.

This is true. Women clearly aren't seen as equals to them so it's not a shock really.
Women aren't seen as equals in a lot of the world still unfortunately.
I'm confident that African football Twitter isn't representative of African people, in the same way Twitter tends to magnify the most obsessive, unbalanced and sociopathic elements of any community. But African football Twitter is a special kind of cesspit.

A few months ago I did a 12 hour charity football marathon to raise money for a very excellent organisation called Tackle Africa who use football as a way to educate on various social & shexual health issues prevalent across Africa. The info pack on the extent of some of the issues was alarming; some of which I was aware of (on a laymen's level at least), such as HIV etc... Others were genuinely shocking; domestic violence, teenage pregnancy rates in certain countries (like Malawi).
I worry that the tendencies/beliefs you see on African Twitter aren't a million miles away from the attitudes you'll find on the ground.
I want to caveat that by saying that I've travelled in Southern Africa and it was magical. Also happened to bump in Nigel Farage (yea, I know) in Swakopmund and Jason Manford at the top of Table Mountain with his wife & kids!

RBW, you're projecting all sorts of things that I haven't said, and don't believe. I didn't think you're pro-Greenwood, and I never thought you have no ethical concerns. I'm just observing that you've a few times grown uncomfortable about 'pointless' or 'divisive' discussion of certain contentious moral topics, and you've framed it in both the Greenwood and Qatar issues around whether to continue or stop supporting the club. The only point I'm trying to make is that (while some people would walk if Greenwood were reinstated) that's not the focus or purpose of the discussion. As such, you needn't feel defensive about not being willing to contemplate ceasing to follow the club. As far as I can see, no one is demanding that of you. I haven't particularly thought about what I would do in that instance, because at the moment my hypothetical allegiance isn't the most important thing in the world.
So, no, I wasn't saying anything about your ethics, your standards, your moral worth. I wasn't judging you. I was just saying the way you sometimes react to these things suggests you could view the debate in a more rounded way. Sorry if it didn't come across that way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK RR. I dont want to fall out with you anymore. I like your posts and articles. I hope if we knew each other we would be get on. So I am sorry if you feel I have misundertood you!
The Geenwood debate however on here I have found is just too much now. Yes I do post sarcy comments sometimes. Its become Groundhog day. Having higher morality and standards IS the go-to retort for some posters who dare to challenge their perceptions of the case as 'actual facts they know'. It's mad.
Berba & Robb, me and RBW... Look at us: get a room, eh?
Berbaking, I'm sure there are some very conservative attitudes in Africa and accompanying them a higher density of undeconstructed masculinity (to put it politely). All I'm saying is Twitter collects and amplifies all the worst voices (you massive racist!)
