Finishing third was very fortunate if you look at United's goal difference and how poorly Liverpool and Chelsea performed.

I don't think anyone would be surprised if United miss top 4 this season

Watching MOTD highlights, Hojlund made so many good runs, none picked out by Rashford. Never looks up, lacks awareness.

Rashford is a huge issue for ETH.

He’s both one of our best players but also the least well fitting player in his style of football.

Doesn’t press, doesn’t work off the ball, doesn’t get involved in build up, he’s selfish and mostly wasteful, walking round sulking for 80 mins of a match. But, again, he’s also one of our best players.

He’s basically everything levelled at Ronaldo.

Could see this season coming for United from a mile off. Spurs luck ran out last season, Kane stopped bailing us out and the poor performances/good results cycle we were in stopped.

United seemed to pick up the mantle, scraping by most games 1-0/2-1 without ever looking particularly good. Rashford having the season of his life and United getting a lot of unwarranted clean sheets.

This year will only get harder for United, the champions league will be a slog and ETH has never looked particularly clued up in Europe - Spurs turning Ajax over by humping the ball long to Fernando Llorente who just flicked on to Lucas and Ajax and ETH had no answer to it.

The fact that the dressing room is seemingly falling to pieces, the owners aggravate the fans something chronic, players being accused of all sorts - I would fall off my chair if United finish higher than 5th this year and instead expect they will be 7/8th

From an observers point of view, nothing has really changed at United since Ole.

He galvanised the club initially, Bruno came in, you got decent results, but beyond being a counter attacking team, you lacked any clear identity.. you did t have the players to press effectively and when Ole tried to employ this it didn't work. You got results but so often it was individual moments. Results exceeded level of performance.

Fast forward and you still look like a team incapable of pressing . Players either lacking mobility (your CM) or less willing to do so. Brighton walked though you for their goals. Other than getting it early to Rashford, it's hard to see exactly what your identity is. Performances have not been great and results have matched them.

under Ole United went 30 games without losing an away game. I believe that is a record in English football. There is no luck involved in that, or 30 moments of individual brilliance that got the points in EVERY game. Many of those matches Unted came back from going behind. That showed a team resolve and spirit to fight. We dont see that any more.

A lot like to dismiss Ole, I dont. He chose a system and made it worse, with a lot less club control.

Let me start by saying I actually feel sorry for Rashford. The guy had/has talent. He has become the player the team needed. A poor functioning team with all the issues people have mentioned.

However he is now a problem. Especially since we have signed Hojlund. He now either adapts or falls by the way side. At 26 playing a certain way for so long, overall successfully it's not an easy task for player.

It's well established in football that young players are taught to be selfish to get recognition initially. However when they make it to the first team they HAVE to change their game. Be a team player if you will. More than you think fail at this and don't make it at the highest level.

The problem is, despite what people may think we have been a team far from being at the highest level. So we have pandered to certain types of players who have gotten us out of trouble. Step forward Marcus.

Lower clubs need players like Marcus.

Take Grealish for example. Flair player. Yet goes to Man City and doesn't get a game for a while. Almost a year later is a regular AND a team player. His game is different.

Marcus now needs to vary his game. He needs to be like Becks and Giggs of old. Chip in with a few goals but ultimately be provider. If he doesn't criticism will follow and it will be deserved

He’s a goalscoring forward, he needs to score more goals not completely change his game to become a provider.

He sees himself a left winger and has said as much. Prefers playing there too. Which he has also said.

He played as a striker pairing today. He had the ball in positions a player liked him thinks of only one thing. He should know better but a player does only what s in his nature. That's why keeping him far enough limits his tendency

That doesn’t change anything about what I’ve said.

He does however, need to learn how to press and be a team player. Sides will continue Tom play through is like Brighton did yesterday if we don’t have a functional forward press, which you can achieve by walking around and pressing at 70%.

Yeah I do agree with that.

ETH, is he perfect, of course not, is anybody, no of course not. But his record says, nay shouts, he is better than any poster on here, even redastomatos.

😂 talk about stating the obvious, but then again, there are some delusional posters who think they could coach a team of pro’s on all football sites

I don’t think he did too much wrong on the ball yesterday, we got him into the positions he thrives on 4 or 5 times in the first half, but he failed to produce.

He was unlucky not to assist Hoijlund and was ultimately pretty wasteful, but another game he gets a couple of goals.

The real issue with him, imo, is off the ball. Yeah I had Hoijlund, Bruno, Mctominay all pressing hard and Rashford/ Eriksen were basically lampposts.

You dont think he did much wrong on the ball BUT he failed to produce on 4 or 5 occasions in ideal positions, and was wasteful?
