Saw a bit of the Arsenal Man City game. Kovacic committed two fouls both of which were far worse than Lemina’s. Non Man City players could easily have been given a straight red for both of them, he got a yellow and a nothing. Says it all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah saw that. First tackle could easily have been a straight red but he just got yellow. Second tackle was a stonewall second yellow but he got nothing. Both were worse than either of the challenges that got Lemina two yellows
Just after Lemina got sent off, McGinn pulled back a Wolves player in the same way. The ref put his whistle to his mouth, but then waved to play on. I reckon he realised he'd have to sent off a second player within a few minutes and bottled it.
McGinn was pushing his luck all through the game. One remarkable incident where a corner was delayed 6 times while the ref warned him and Dawson for grappling with each other. Then he booked Dawson and let McGinn off despite him being the main instigator
Haven't seen the highlights yet
Was a difficult angle from my seat in the billy wright was it a foul on Neto for a pen?
I thought so at the time but haven't seen the replay.
I think the Neto one was one of those that wouldn't be overturned either way. We never seem to get the on field decision in those situations though.
We are towards the other e d of the pitch but I thought it was a pen but most of my mates didn’t. Certainly a close call
Yeah we're probably opposite the 18 yard line at the North bank end but it was so quick
Thought we looked decent without carving out too many chances but the wrestling in their box first half for corner's and free kicks was ridiculous
Must admit didn't think it was a pen at the time and I'm sat right over it. Difficult to know what they will and won't give these days though such is the inconsistency
So, we go into the international break on 8 points and averaging a point a game. I doubt there is a single Wolves fan that wouldn’t have took that at the start of the season, given our terrible run of opening fixtures.
We could quite easily be in the bottom three on a couple of points now. Credit to GON who has certainly got the players on his side. 👍
Match of the day wanted a penalty for Watkins being pushed. Didn’t mention the Neto one.
Do think one of the crazy ways Football has developed in recent years is the pushing and shoving that goes on in the area while waiting for corners and free kicks to be delivered. Its quite unclear to me where the line gets drawn on blocking player’s runs and holding, which often comes close to a bear hug.
The battles that developed in the Villa area between Dawson and McGinn yesterday were an ideal case study to decide what should and shouldn’t be allowed. The referee spoke to both of them on a number of occasions, but the holding and pushing just carried on regardless
I don’t think the ref’s know what to do.
If they started penalising, one way or the other then perhaps it would reduce, don’t see it stopping altogether.
Good to see Semedo is banned next game
Can’t say I’ve been impressed with Doherty in recent outings and much rather have Semedo in there.
Also see that Gomes, Dawson and Hwang are one booking away from a suspension
Had Lemina only received the first booking he would have been subject to a one match ban. Had he not racked up 5 bookings but still got two yellows in the game, I think he would have got a one match ban. As it is he triggered the 5 yellows suspension and the 2 yellows in a game suspension. Should that be a two match ban?
Think Hwang and Gomes are still on 3 so 2 bookings away.

Apparently he gets a one match ban for the two yellows but when he picks up his next one he's banned for another game. So could be back for one game then banned again straight after.
Just to clarify:- (yellow cards)
Semedo 4
Lemina 4 (misses next game due to red, but another yellow and another one match ban.
Dawson 3
Gomes 3
Hwang 2 (yellow card in cup doesn't count)
Saša Kalajdžić called up for the Austrian squad. Fingers crossed on that one.
Wolves have 12 players away in international duties this week.
Sa, Semedo, Neto and Toti for Portugal plus Kalajdzic, Hwang, Traore, Cunha, Doherty and Santiago Bueno for their respective countries. Fabio and Hodge have U21 call ups.
Could be worse, Man City have 18 players away and Pep is taking a holiday because the training ground will be so quiet
So Pep has nothing to do because with all the players away on international duty he can only just make up 2 training 11s of full internationals.
According to the Wolves site Hwang has 6 goals (including the cup) from just 6 goals on target. "Give him the ball and he will score".
That stat is pretty impressive by anyone's standard.
In the league his goal conversion (total shots / goals scored) is 63%, easily the best in the league. By comparison Haaland has 29%, Salah has 24% and Saka has 33%.
When it comes to assists Neto has 5, and the only other player with more than one is Sarabia who (including the cup) has 4. Sarabia seems to be quite out of favour, not quite sure why, although he definitely looked p!ssed off last time he was subbed off.
All Hwang’s goals are from close range which is a tribute to his ability to be in the right place at the right time. Hope Cunha learns from him in that respect.
He is evidently getting some stick now in Brazil for his lack of goals. He’s got 9 caps and is yet to score. Wonder why he can’t replicate his record for the Brazil u23s and u20s where he played 23 games and scored 19
