Yep similar comments where I sat.

Feared for him at first, but boy what a talent. Adapted, adjusted & just owned that position. Bristol kept pinging balls his way & he just coped.

It’s crazy how composed he is for his age.

But everyone played well today, a proper team performance that deserved more.

Gray, Pascal, Byram, Summerville, James and Rutter the standouts for me

Very composed, just does the basics well. Could play RB again for sure.

Radebe started his football life in a different position and went on to be one off our legends!..

I wounder how good Archie would be in goal!.

Very composed and mature. The exciting thing is I think we are only scratching the surface of what he could become and suspect he will develop some of the more attacking aspects of his game as he gains strength and experience. For now though doing the basics excellently and learning quickly is working really well for him and the team.

Yep, said virtually the identical thing on Earl’s match-day thread … after around 15 mins of play I posted ‘Archie ain’t no right back’ but then posted that I was changing my mind during the 2nd half😁. A remarkable turnaround by the young lad. Delighted for him and of course, us!

Was amazing hearing the crowd sing the old Eddie songs to Archie.

Kept Ayling out of the side and obviously Shackleton is unavailable for whatever reason (injured?) but on yesterday's performance and with the benefit of hindsight I would start Gary ahead of Shacks, especially as other than other than falling asleep at the corner that led to the goal, Kamara did well alongside Ampadu.
Spence may be back for the Norwich game, give Archie another run out or if Spence is fit start him?

I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, what position did the Chief start in Lufc Germany? I can only remember him playing at CB for us. Was he any good in the other position(s)?

Dennis, he started as a goalkeeper at the Kaizer Chiefs!..

Not sure when he changed position but he was brilliant for us!..

He was a keeper originally but was a central defender by the time we signed him… he was, I think, only signed as company for Phil Masinga. Did actually play in goal after a sending off for us I think.

Thought he struggled, to be honest. Kept recovering well, utterly his bad positioning meant that he kept having to. On top of that, think its unfair to expect him to play there.

Should have learned our lessons shoehorning young players into the side. Just in my lifetime White, Mowatt, Struijk and Byram all shoved into unnatural positions and to their detriment each time.

I don't know about being compared to Great Uncle Eddie but if he carries on at this rate Archie will be being compared to Paul Madeley.

I thought he got better but like Lubo, think he struggled all game with positioning. That ball over the top was always on for them down the left. Hopefully Spence is back soon,

Says a lot that the manager has gone for him over Ayling though.

I think Ayling is an important voice in the dressing room along with Cooper and I can imagine Farke enjoys their presence regarding team unity but Ayling's noticable loss of a yard or two is what sadly means his rb days are numbered with Leeds and with Gray doing a good job yesterday, you'd now expect him, with what now appears to be DF's blessing, to continue to do so until Spence is fit to return

I'm sure Ayling's worked this out for himself and is either thinking of a new club to play regularly for next season or even moving into coaching which I reckon he'd be well suited to but yesterday I'm certain Ayling would have appreciated and respected Archie Gray's talent which more than likely meant he witnessed his own first team opportunities disappearing.

he has all the makings of brilliant rwb, lots to learn but so so much talent

We started slowly again, mostly Bristol for the first 10-15 minutes. Archie was caught in possession early on, but he grew into the game and overall it was a great battle between him and Bell.

All in All Archie is doing fab for a 17 year old at our club with it's extra pressure and expectations. So many others older have sank.

I'm a bit puzzled by where Sam Byram has been played out of position to his detriment.
My recollection is that in his previous stint he was a right back or right wing back (not sure I have the depth of football knowledge to understand the differences between these two positions, sorry).
He now plays left back or left wing back (see above).
He is doing pretty well in his new role but if they ever get Firpo playing to the level of the player that they thought they'd signed, I am sure Sam will slot in and revert to his original position.
Is the current position or the pre-West Ham position the issue.
I'm confused, I can see, I will need a lot of enlightenment.

He will be referring to when he was a youngster not now. We were using him as a winger and midfielder when he was young and hoping he would win games on his own. We were awful and messed him around on the pitch and then offered him a wage reduction to stay.

What a time that was!
