Did we play him out of position? I recall him going to West Ham and I believe he got in the team there because of a couple of injuries but I don't believe there he was played out of position.
We certainly messed him around and I believe he didn't want to leave Cellino was a basket case. Who was at right back in those days?

I think Ayling is an important voice in the dressing room along with Cooper and I can imagine Farke enjoys their presence regarding team unity but Ayling's noticable loss of a yard or two is what sadly means his rb days are numbered with Leeds and with Gray doing a good job yesterday, you'd now expect him, with what now appears to be DF's blessing, to continue to do so until Spence is fit to return
I'm sure Ayling's worked this out for himself and is either thinking of a new club to play regularly for next season or even moving into coaching which I reckon he'd be well suited to but yesterday I'm certain Ayling would have appreciated and respected Archie Gray's talent which more than likely meant he witnessed his own first team opportunities disappearing.

Beautifully put, Macca. In other words, he's knackered.
I think Farke thought Ayling would gave struggled against the pace of their left winger hence Archie player there.

Agree! Somebody else either on here or FB suggested that Ayling would get rinsed by their left winger...big call from Farke to put Gray in there, and Kamara who was poor v Southampton and didn't feature against QPR played his best game yet. I keep thinking how good Byram would be at RB, but he's our best LB.
we have unfortunately got to give the whole squad a certain amount of time, new regime for all.....
