I completely agree, insignificant little whank stains with the sole intent of bringing attention to themselves, GTTF

i agree with the statement, particularly this bit:

"It is because of this history that Celtic fans are renowned for their empathy and solidarity; consistently siding with the oppressed and destitute. This fact is not lost on the PLC as it regularly flirts with the idea, particularly where it can be commodified"

If i have a criticism its that it should clarify no ill will toward innocent citizens of israel, and condemn hamas.

additionally, if i had to choose between the celtic board saying what celtic stand for, or the GB, i know who would most likely get my support.

The celtic board are whanks, snidey whanks.

happy to cash in wherever possible, when as the GB say, it can be commodified. To hit out with that bullschit last night when a week ago they had a women signing grace on the park is nothing short of moronic.

Separate the innocent from the perpetrator yes, but don't turn a blind eye to it.

I suspect there’s also a bit of the story clarifying over the last few days about the Hamas atrocities. Going back to when they scribbled out the “victory” message, was there real clarity on what had happened? I’m not so sure. Stupidly they managed to not clarify this in their retort to the board, and again stupidly they didn’t distance from what it has been revealed was the extent of the Hamas attack.

Both them and the board are whanks of different flavours. But whanks nonetheless.

They don't care about that, it means the entire statement almost reads as a further endorsement of the weekend's attacks.

They just see themselves as oppressed so get behind any cause of genuinely oppressed peoples without showing any nuance or understanding of the situation.

Where's the banners for the Uygurs, the Rohingya, the Kurds? etc

These eejits would have had a banner saying "Victory to the Resistance" after the Omagh bombing in 1998 if they were around back then. They're morons.

I can't stand the board either a lot of the time but they had to release a statement along those lines beaches the optics of the weekend banner were/are horrendous.. further amplified today by the GB doubling down and making no condemnation of the attacks.

It won't be the GB who get fined by the footballing authorities. The club have to try and protect their reputation and itself against future sanctions.

The Palestine stuff I can understand dont agree with that stuff in football but I understand.

the "victory for the resistance" part is disgusting, vile. Im only commenting on it cos it brought up by a celtic fan. But that part only comes across as celebrating the Hamas strike which is just sickening.

Any decent minded fan regardless of team should condemn that $hite IMO.

Was it not thought that it was Israeli soldiers being taken hostage? I wasn’t online much on Friday or the weekend.

I recall hearing civilians pretty early in the day. That's why I jumped into Twitter to see what the score was and there was already the videos and word from the music festival.

Granted Twitter has been an absolute shiitshow with all the disinfornation and fake/old videos doing the rounds in recent days. Musk really has turned that site into an even bigger bin fire than it ever was.

Aye the level of disinformation, and how that is skewed by people’s previous clicks, makes it plausible that they were dealing with a version of events that was inaccurate. For me it doesn’t excuse the wording though, which was more aggressive as opposed to focusing on support for the Palestinian victims, given that is what they say they support.

All they had to do was include one line on today's statement condemning the weekend's attacks.

That they didn't speaks volumes.

The board have done this solely to mitigate the size of the fine incoming after the next CL game. Like most reasonable people they probably see fault with both sides but are prepared to put that aside to protect the name, finances, present and future signings of the club.

Yes, they are both vvanks.

Thanks fvck the game isn't this week else UEFA would likely demand a minute's silence. Still might.

And to address Juke's point, like most things it is not clear how much support the man in the Palestinian alley gives Hamas. On the one hand they were elected. On the other they have not had regular elections and cancelled the most recent. On the other other hand that's because the Israelis control much of the infrastructure needed to hold the elections. A mess.

I'd say it was the timing of it rather than what was written on it that is probably the biggest issue here. If they had that up after the usual Israeli killing of Palestinians in the West Bank, it wouldn't look so bad.

Eh? Are you being serious?

Sure a few hundred outraged Celtic fans are going to wade in and set about them

They’ve been banned before for some of their ridiculous banners and statements. They get back in eventually.

The board won’t ban 3,000 or so fans from one area of the ground for life. I don’t know any club who would, far less would have done so.

All the decent fans can do is register disgust and complain, but nobody in their right mind is going to start climbing over seats and windmilling it.

The next home game will be interesting but I live in hope more than belief that the board will throw them out for a couple of games.

I think if recent events tell us anything, meeting intolerance with violence is hardly likely to solve the problem 🤷‍♂️
