Despite a slow start, history shows that Paul Warne's teams have often started slowly but eventually won promotion from the division.
Derby County's current record is identical to Warne's previous promotion-winning seasons with Rotherham United at the same stage of the campaign.
Although there is pressure and growing unrest at Pride Park, it is too early to make a decision on Warne's future, as there is still potential for Derby to turn things around and challenge for promotion.

Trouble is the longer ex players/managers are not at Derby - Clough, Martin, Hughes, Rosenior, Keogh, Wisdom, Russell Carson etc etc the better they seem to be in people's minds
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that most of the players you mention there are/were better than we have now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, I concur but that was then - just trying to make the point that people thinking they are the answer NOW
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd take Martin, Hughes and Russell.

And I'd take Nigel back as manager. We'll be playing Mansfield nexrt season, as long as we don't get relegated.

Pretty certain Martin would lead the attack better than Collins, Washington and Waghorn, absolutely certain Hughes would be an improvement in midfield. Don’t know if Russell still has his pace and athleticism but if he did he would have a field day against Div 1 defenders. Hughes and Russell are now literally and metaphorically out of our league.

Tell me what is it like in cloud cuckoo land?

Never been Tom. What have I said that is so outrageous? What do you disagree with other than that you are naturally disagreeable?

posted on 28/10/23

What are you talking about? You might as well say. Let's go for Messi Ronaldo, you talk absolute c**p

posted on 28/10/23

Uncle we are talking about players we once had and they cost nothing. If anyone is living in cloud cuckoo land it's you.

I loved Will Hughes, but even with my bias I can't compare him to Messi.

English comprehension wasn’t your strong suit at school then Tom. I did ask what it was I have said that is so outrageous. I did say that we couldn’t sign Hughes or Russell. We could have signed Martin who would have added some much needed guile to our attack. I am certain he could still do a decent job in Div 1 and he scored today.

I don’t actually get to see the games so it’s difficult for me to offer an opinion. Any comment I make is based on what I read, so it’s of no real consequence. That said, I was surprised when Derby sacked Rosenior last season to bring in Warne and the way results are going and the unrest with the fans I think Warne will be sacked before Christmas.

It is normal practice to give a new manager a few weeks before the transfer window opens so you may be right Florida. I am not calling for his head as I have no idea of a replacement as we now deal in the bargain basement.

posted on 28/10/23

I would like to sign Martin, but Warne didn't want to, How do I watch hotel Johnny Russell? But he wouldn't come back, he's on too good thing in America, and would cost a fortune
And we certainly can't afford hughes.
Get real We can only have players nobody else wants.
That kind of limits the players we get.

Ps You finally said something right. you have no idea.

The players we have got are more than good enough to get us out of this league. We have been outplayed many times this season by teams who have inferior individuals. How many of Shrewsbury's team do we want to sign? They were all free transfers as are the majority of players at this level. We are punching so far below our weight it's unbelievable. The manager has so far been unable to create a team that is remotely approaching the sum of its parts, let alone greater. And we seem to be getting worse not better. I hoped that the Exeter game might be a watershed, a game where we changed to a passing team and started progressing. Maybe we were just flattered by a very poor opponent. There have been many more games like today this season than like the Exeter game.

So Tom, you do know who should replace Warne in the event of him being sacked then. Pray enlighten us
As I said in my previous post, we won’t be signing Johnny Russell or Will Hughes but you didn’t appear to understand the intricacies of your native language. I can write in two other languages if you would prefer that.

Warne should worry about his job if you are saying he should go Vidal. I think that is becoming a majority view if not a consensus.

I don't want him replacing, can't you understand? or Is it beyond your mental capacity.

I think fans are very good when there's a few straws of hope to clutch at, cling to or make up.

Right now there's not much. The team seems to be regressing or struggling as the optimists would say. There's little evidence to suggest Warne has the ability to get the sum of this team, playing better, than the quality of its parts. That's not to say he won't.

Comparing Rotherham and Derby I think is a bit like apples and oranges. Teams I imagine would have gone at Rotherham more, and that's where Warne could have caught them out. Park the bus against us and we run out of ideas after the third pass. Again going back to hope, it feels like Warne could do with finding a few more tricks up his sleeve.

If we can't afford to get rid of Warne can we get him some support that he'd accept? I feel like he needs a Harry Redknap to his Darren Wassall.

Could we tread water to January and look at some signings? I can't think of a type of player that we need, that would make a difference, within our budget. Perhaps a Ravel Morrison/Didz that can unlock defences, but do we have the budget for that?

I think we can put Bird in his best position as a holding MF. Could Ward and Nyambie (left back) play in a back four. An in form Fornah and Hourihane ahead of Bird I think has potential.

That's where I'm at for hope scavenging. It's not a lot of fun atm though, have to say.

A tad demotivating.

It seems the norm that sacking a manager nowadays is prohibitively expensive. Surely any contract should contain performance targets and severance conditions?

posted on 28/10/23

Maybe it does. We are all only guessing what the deal is.

posted on 28/10/23

That would surely show no confidence in the manager you're going to appoint, Before you appoint him.

posted on 28/10/23

Or it's prudent. Many job contracts involve regular reviews of performance.

posted on 28/10/23

That doesn't apply to the government though does it.
