No. I don't see the relevance though.

We understood that Clowes for building for the long term and wasn't a hire 'em and fire 'em sort of chap. Not that I am advocating anything!

It's a difficult one. Where is the incentive for a manager if he is going to be given four years' worth of pay no matter what happens? You get Billy Davies Syndrome where the manager can make his position untenable but doesn't do anything technically in breach of his contract. Thrre has to be a middle ground.

Managers out of work. John Eustace, most unfairly treated. Gary Rowett, one promotion and twice in the playoffs. Robbie Fowler, amazingly sacked while managing the leading club in the Saudi money league. He would go down well with the white powder enthusiasts in the South Stand. Expect there are quite a few others sitting round twiddling their thumbs.
Something has to happen as either the players aren’t good enough. Warne’s style of play is not good enough. The players are good enough and Warne knows how to win a game but the players aren’t buying in to it. With varying degrees of culpability each of these can be laid at Warne’s door so I think he will be sacked in the next few weeks.

I have no doubt that out budget as approved by EFL will not allow for sackings, never mind trying to poach from another club. There are managers out of a job but DC cannot afford to sack anyone in the first place.

Only if results continue to confound and fans get really antsi and gates tumble may DC feel forced into doing anything. I suppose one possibility could be to part with PW and keep the rest trusting in Barker to do the manager's job. Still an expensive risk.

On other points raised, I agree with Vidal that we have more than enough to do well in this league given a decent run without injuries and suspensions. But, 2W, we saw Nyambe pushed into the LB or LWB position and it cut his effectiveness by a good 50%. We don't really know how we will line up when all are fit but I suspect Warne will go with three at the back and use Elder and Ward as WBs. What that could mean for Nyambe I don't know. So far, for me, he and Nelson have been our best players. Reverting to his favoured line-up will also create doubts as to how NML and Barks are used. They have been our most threatening players in the final third so it does not bode well I fear.

I'm not in favour of sacking anyone but PW has really got to sort things out and get the best from these players and be pretty damned quick about it.

I don't necessarily agree that the budget will not allow for a sacking. Some proportion of the remaining contract of Warne and his staff would need to be paid up, though not necessarily all in one go. The money would need to come out of the overall budget of course, so less for players' wages or transfer fees. I have seen it suggested that Warn'es contract might include a clause that if he was sacked he would get a single year's pay as severance. Often there are clauses that will continue to pay a manager's wage until he finds another job, or to pay the shortfall if the pay at the new club is smaller.

We have a few players out of contact soon, some reputedly on hefty wages for League 1. So there could be savings in the future budget there. I don't know what money Warne is on compared to, say, Hourihane, but it's at least conceivable that the club could afford to pay off Warne in a structured way by savings elsewhere.

The owner would need to think it was in the club's best interests to do that, though, and that it would be worth it in the long term.

Bird and Cashin going in January too could offset things.

Pragmatically Clowes might be thinking touching distance of the playoffs is the line in the sand. Maybe tapping up a few managers for January if results don't improve.

If United sack Eric I'm okay with Huddz and Schteeve.

In Jim Smith's autobiography he describes various sackings that he suffered, but without resentment. He said he usually got on well with the owners, but if things were going badly there would be a reasonably pleasant conversation about how it might be in everyone's interests if there was a parting of the ways. There would rhen be a negotiation about the terms of the severance. I doubt any manager would get enjoyment from sticking around when it's all gone pear-shaped, the fans hating them and their managerial stock falling. It's a massive if, but I expect there would be a deal to be done. It happens all the time after all.

Maybe they could do the Cocu 'voluntary' walk. N who would known what deals were nade in private, away from the EFL's eager gaze. 🤔

Although it seems like the EFL aren't quite as eager as they used to be.

I can't see Warne staying unless we win 3 or 4 in a row. We're off the pace and lacking the spark too often.

Crofting employment law is clearly particularly brutal, albeit we are ridiculously well remunerated. If we don't meet our targets we just go. We have our pride after all.

Aye, ye're a hard and hardy lot you Scots!

There are two basic alternative (or cumulative) reasons for a sacking. 1 the fans are becoming permanently toxic so that maintaining the status quo is just not sensible for anyone and/or 2 You have an itchy-footed, impatient owner who wants promotion or nothing. We have all seen in which camp Morris fell and look where it got us. DC will be only too aware of that so it's going to take a lot to make him pull the trigger even taking account of the possibility for negotiation of terms etc.

Never been called that before Heb! "Old", yes, "wise", rarely and my eyesight is a little below owl strength.

posted on 28/10/23

Why do owls get this reputation for being wise? If I went out at night and tried to eat mice, I doubt anyone would call it wise behaviour.

posted on 28/10/23

It's that calm and knowing look when perched and still or could it be that they are sensible enough to sleep through all the daylight idiocy going on round about them?

posted on 28/10/23

If sleeping all day is the measure of wisdom, then I have badly misjudged my son.
