Even with one game a week some new blood is needed in January. The drop-off is pronounced when the likes of Davies and Skipp come in, and a top quality winger would keep Richarlison and Kulusevski under pressure to improve. I like the looks of Veliz but he's not ready to be a backup #9 yet.

In theory Bentancur takes care of the Skipp issue but a new LB and at least one new forward are needed for Spurs to last the distance in the top 4 race

And a CB too, obviously

I heard Davies had a niggle and was taken off for that rather than tactical, not sure that's confirmed though.

Porro did ok, played an important role in our first goal. But was poor for their goal - although wouldn't have been a goal if the rules were properly implemented.

Passing around at the back was fine because we were winning and controlling the game, it also led to our second goal. I particularly enjoyed the sequence of about ten passes back and forth between Romero and Vicario while the Palace fans were booing.

Would like to see Johnson start against Chelsea but not confident we will.

VDV is a special player. Real class at the back and pace that makes you confident he can keep up with anyone. All at a young age. I still can't believe we managed to get him.

I love seeing every time an attacker tries to beat him for pace. Our fans start cheering straight away because they know what's coming. He's just immense.

I was astounded by the energy and coverage of the pitch by Sarr. He was everywhere and tackling in one place then helping to mount attack in another. Sarr even played a blinding cross field pass to Johnson for the 2nd goal.

Also, so pleasantly surprised with PEH and his smart play. When we went 1-0, he was in Palace half and could have slipped the ball to Sonny but there was a risk of losing possession so he exchanged some passes with Kulu, thus keeping the ball off Palace.

The tactics in that second half were spot on. Once you go a goal, up it is up the opponents to try to get the ball to score. We deprived them of the ball and played it in our half, and you could their fans groanin - that's how to win games
Finally we are doing this.

It’s astonishing that he has gone under the radar of bigger clubs than us - he literally has it all. Technically very good on the ball, physically strong, 6’3” and good in the air and absolutely facking rapid across the ground, his pace over 30 yards is blistering - he is on record as the 9th fastest player in Bundesliga history, ahead of Haaland.

I know Maddison has got all the plaudits but VDV and Vicario have been brilliant signings for us, the two best in their respective positions in the PL so far this season (also how did Carragher give Madders and not VDV MOTM last night).

I know the praise is all going to Maddison and VDV for the way they have started their spurs careers (quite rightly too) but Sarr in effect is a new signing and for me is the stand out of the season so far as it’s so unexpected (I know he played well against Milan)

He looks a real star …..even though he doesn’t look strong he really is ….seems to have everything and with every match is getting better and better

Someone said he is like a young Patrick viera and that’s an excellent comparison

Carra explained it that he gave it to Madders on the basis of his involvement in both goals but it was a very close call with VDV.

He did turn down Liverpool who were after him. I saw multiple article in the Echo about Klopp wanting him etc...But VDV had decided to come to Spurs very early on.

Great player, has all the attributes to be a superstar CB, and also has the temperament to go with.

Loved the way Vicario got cross with the defenders for their goal- tore them a new one. His passion is immense and a 100% upgrade on Hugo

Yeh I thought Sarr had an excellent game. And surprisingly Spurs seemed to play better when PEH come on.

That was me plays more and more like him with every passing game.. The kid has it all.... He's the perfect foil for Biss.... One sits, the other drives forward... perfect balance.

I actually think Bents' return will work perfectly as a back up option to Madders while he regains his fitness. We saw a lot last year that he has the ability to be more of an attacking/goal scoring midfielder/ furthest forward of the 3. PEH is invaluable as the back up option for Biss & Sarr....... I really hope he doesn't leave in Jan.

As everyone has stated, I still think we are an attacking player short, whether that's another CF or a wide attacker, I'm not sure. I like Gill and Solomon but I'm not sure either are the answer long term.

I'm afraid I just don't think Richie is at the right club, He's not a wide player and technically isn't good enough to ever be anything more than a back up for Son.

Another CB and someone Like a Mitoma/Eze type player (Both those too expensive).....But Someone like Jotta (Ex Celtic) or Pedro Neto (Wolves) in Jan and Spurs are really in business !!!

I don’t get the PEH hate from some of our fans. Acknowledging he’s not a first 11 starter now, he is a pretty good squad option to have and he’s shown in the 2 games he’s played so far he can adapt to Angeball. If you consider our midfield options for two positions are:

Bissouma > Bentancur > Sarr > Hoijberg > Skipp

That isn’t too horrendous at all given the constant talk about our depth. Likewise, in the attacking positions:

Son > Maddison > Johnson > Kulusevski > Richarlison > Soloman

Then again, it’s not bad.

It’s CB and LB in particular where the real concern is. Seems Royal will deputise in either of the full back positions, but CB is a nightmare. We have arguably the best CB pairing in the league now, with literally no back up for them other than Dier or a couple of young kids.

CB is absolutely 100% the position we should be strengthening in January, come hell or high water.

Just his pace alone would make you think it'd alert clubs to him. Don't all clubs want pace in their side? Not as if it was a secret either. As you say it's on record him being one of the fastest in a good league. Was the fastest Bundesliga defender last season.

When you add his age and other attributes into the mix, it's strange all the big clubs weren't looking at him. Thankfully they weren't.

Good start Sandy.

If spurs are still in the mix New Year’s Day I’ll start to take you lot seriously.

You lot have a tough run of games now while we have a lovely run of games.

Exciting times

I’m enjoying it while it lasts but if we finish lower than 4th I’ll be disappointed due to no European football

Good article.

Nice and happy atm but we do have a hard run coming up soon,

Villa - MCity - WHU - Newcastle all in 14 days and that’s when we’ll shake out if we are ready or not for a title push imo

January id like a CB & top winger

Yeah We both have a few idiots on this site tbf.

Top4, the Europa, and maybe a cup run for us.

Spurs top 4 and a good FA cup run would be the target.

Anyways exciting start to the season, most important for me though is that city look like they can be got at.

I predict we’ll have 5 teams within 5 points of each other in the top five positions on New Year’s Day.

Add in Newcastle to current top 4.

We're getting to a stage where I'll be disappointed if we're not in a title challenge and if we finished say 4th and it's quite far behind the leaders, I'd be disappointed now.

Might be wrong on this but thought I read that 5th place this season gets you a CL place because of the new expanded format next season. (Celtic fan admiring from afar). We just have to win the league to get back in again.

Decent post, and I think PEH is a good squad player and did his job well when he came on. Only Grandspur thinks he is total craap, but then he thinks others are as well. Absolute priority has to be a decent back up to VVD and Romero. Rest of the team is pretty well covered with just one game a week.
