bit harsh considering the 2 cup finals and 3rd place finish after our worst EPL season the year prior?

Look at the cup draws we got and tell me you wouldn't have been absolutely devastated had we not made those cup finals. We barely played a top half PL team until the final in each competition and every draw we got was at home wasn't it? 😂

Those cup runs have papered over a lot of cracks. People keep saying he's going to be the quickest Utd manager to 50 wins. Not surprised given we were in the Europa League and also had two very favourable cup runs domestically. It doesn't paint the full story I'm afraid.

In reality we lost 7 at Liverpool, 6 at City and didn't beat a single top 9 team away from home. We got battered by Sevilla and City beat us at Wembley with the handbrake on.

We did and now it looks like a top 6 finish is perhaps not even that likely.

That's called regression.

A lot of poor performances hidden behind Rashford having the season of his life - never sustainable.

ETH is also obsessed with the Eredivisie and we all know how hit and miss those players are in the Prem.

United have been getting schooled in Europe also.

I would be very surprised if ETH is United manager next season

A lot of the teams around us were uncharacteristically awful last season too don’t forget.

I think it’s actually much worse than we are willing to admit:

Board level and below - all needs to change
Managers - we’ve not had a top top drawer manager in charge since SAF
Players - also not good enough despite their price tags. None of them get into out competitors teams. Now look back to our successful teams and basically all of them got into competing teams.

So it’s all three - the board/directors of football etc, the manager and the players.

Spot on, you were heavily masked by Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool having horrendous seasons - you had a clear run at 3rd place with only Newcastle offering any opposition.

People talk about how bad the bottom 4 clubs are this year - well last year the bottom 10 were woeful, beyond bad. United last year defended well, and had Casemiro and Rashford playing their hearts out - that was enough for 3rd and 2 cup finals, winning 1

The standard is much higher this year

Whilst others around us improved in the summer, fixing their obvious shortcomings, we somehow spent £160m and stood still. We had a shambolic pre-season, we didn't get Greenwood back in the fold and we've been ravaged with injuries.

We're struggling for a variety of reasons and the manage is obviously a part of that.

I think I heard somewhere that United's 4 attackers have 1 goal and 3 assists between them and all belong to Rashford.

We weren't consistent last season but we did put in some performances that were genuinely way better than anything we'd seen in a long time. Barcelona home and away were proper performances against a quality team, and they weren't sit-back-and-hit-them-on-the-counter like some of Ole's best matches. Playing against City at OT last season, in truth the match could have gone either way but we were the better, tactically smarter side in the first half.

So many sides in recent memory have had dreadful spells and then grown much better. Arteta had a promising spell when he was appointed, then finished 8th next season and was universally considered a joke. Klopp had done enough before last season that he earned the benefit of the doubt, but at this stage last season Liverpool had fewer points than we do now.

Football fans are so short-term in our attention spans. At times this year everyone has been delirious about our trajectory. Now this forum feels like a waiting room for the Samaritans. Things get both worse and better. One of the reasons for our long-term weakness has been lack of strategy, which is to say inconsistency in decisions. I believe the last thing we need right now is more upheaval.

We can't blame Martial specifically for this season, no but overall as a Utd player he's been an absolute joke.

Revisionism FC. Where was Martial last year? Out on loan flopping in Spain.

You struggled to score last season and much of what you did do was thanks to Rashford on fire. When he doesnt fire, you struggle. I think Bruno was next best with 8

Not sure if this speaks of the quality you have or the tactics.

You struggled to score last season
------------------

This is the issue essentially. The way we play - slow and plodding half the time, impatient and forced the other half - doesn't enable us to sustain pressure on the opposition, doesn't shift the opposition around to create spaces and opportunities in dangerous areas and doesn't result in consistent chances being made for our attackers.

Any striker would struggle in a team like this. No striker is going to magically start scoring goals when we can't make any chances for them.

The more i see United the more cautious i see your manager.

He may not feel confident in the quality of the defence or the mobility of the CM, but he doesnt commit enough men forward to really peg teams back. That is what i always associated United with - pushing teams back, imposing yourself on them, keeping pressure on them, flooding attacking areas.

Don't see any of this. Too scared to expose your defence.
