My liver is fecked so don't really drink anymore. It is a social thing but it has changed a lot now and is different drinking to what it once was. More cultured perhaps.

Dunno but half the bars now have 3 page menus of stupid fckin cocktails for £10+ that take 15 minutes each to make and are served in anything other than a regular glass. These places need a separate queue for folk that just want a pint.

Drinking socially is great but you have to mix it up

Going to the same places all the time is boring

And I’d rather be teetotal than sit in working men’s clubs night after night with the same people

Yep. Pandering to the same cants that are turning vegetarian and eat tofu. We need to cull a few.

Also true this, I don't really go out to drink anymore. I'll drink at home once a week and just chat to my wife for the evening about whatever!

Yeah can't say i do really. A chapter of my life i won't be returning to at 48. Had a few in Portugal for my buddies stag in July but didn't enjoy it like i once would have.

Feel physically much better for it as well and signs of a six pack returning as the few pounds are shed.

I enjoy some of these overpriced more interesting ales now available or a decent glass of wine but rarely drink. Even two drinks feels like it's had an unhealthy effect the next day.

Spent much of my youth binge drinking once a week which eventually became once a year or less and while it was fun, it's a real shame it felt necessary at the time.

A bit of an embarrassment but I feel sick for days after one of these rare big nights out nowadays. The friends who still drink heavily more than a couple of times a year seem fine so you obviously build a decent tolerance to hangovers not just the effects on the night.

There's an even stronger possibility that I'm a wimp (and getting old). But the hangover tolerance is very obvious too regardless of age.

Amazing how smoking is getting banned everywhere, without a single incident of a smoker lighting up, and then getting violent. Yet alcohol fueled yobs can cause carnage practically anywhere on a weekend night, making city centers virtually no go areas.

A ban on alcohol would get my seal of approval, even though I like the occasional pint.

Passive smoking causes significant numbers of cancer deaths annually, but those numbers are dropping due to the bans on smoking in pubs, restaurants, etc. I don't know of any cities I would consider a no-go area on a Friday or Saturday night. Drinking behaviour seems to be cyclical, and the current younger generation isn't into binge drinking the way mine was before we turned into middle aged farts.

I reduced my consumption a lot after getting my Oura Ring. It tracks my sleep and although on the face of it I get good deep and REM sleep after four or five beers, it also shows that my body is working overtime to get rid of the alcohol. My heart rate always goes up about 15 - 20 beats per minute over a seven hour sleep. That’s as much as an extra 8,400 beats every night I drink that amount.

So I now tend to go out just one night a week and at hike I only have the odd beer if I’m watching the footy. Even then I often drink a decent 0%.

At 68 I need to protect my heart and liver.
