As JSPC said, it seemed very much like she was angling to get sacked for some time. Not just in the consciously provocative things she said, but in defying explicit instructions from No.10 along the way. Seems pretty clear to me that she is angling to be the leading representative of the radical right faction of the Tory party after the election loss and inevitable leadership contest. It's not a popular stance across the country but it has commanded the support of a plurality of the Tory members who elect their leader in recent times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It might be a ploy to get her the top seat but surely she must have enough awareness to know that the Cons would not get power with her at the helm. She must be one of the most universally disliked female politicians in recent times, she makes Preti seem like a caring empathetic sort.

Some of the things she comes out with bearing in mind her background and that of her parents. Good riddance.

There is an interview of her getting grilled and it reminded me of the Dianne Abbott disaster, could not answer a question pertaining her job. How she passed her interview is anyones guess

A deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunt representing a group of deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunts, sacks a deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunt for deceiving hate-fuelled phobic cuuuntz.

Nowt to discuss.

I think expressing yourself with less hate would give greater weight to your view, rather than make you appear as a hateful person yourself.

Of course Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon was among the far right present. Interestingly the real Tommy Robinson (Luton football hooligan extraordinaire and violent cockwomble) is in the process of a civil action to get his name back.

A couple of things from the first page of the thread:

- Did RBW get Barry'd without anyone picking up on it?
- Devonshire characteristically more visibly concerned about the lack of civility of people on internet forums than a government minister fuelling literal fascists and undermining the police.

It's interesting that you should pick at my comment, and ignore the one I commented on -

"A deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunt representing a group of deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunts, sacks a deceitful, hate-promoting, phobia-exploiting cuuunt for deceiving hate-fuelled phobic cuuuntz."

Fundamentally i am open to the opinions of others and can find a position, which many fail to, where I can agree to disagree. This requires a degree of respect between individuals.

Calling out hate is a worthy thing, but to do so with such malice makes me conclude that there is hate on both sides, in which case how can one side profess to be better/more worthy than the other.

You're a man for reasoned debate yet you call out me rather than the hateful expression of the comment I responded to. Once again, to me that is a revealing action by you. Having a go at the perceived Tory who is promoting civility in a debate, and ignoring the hateful expressions of a view you sympathise with. And you know this is not just an "internet forum" issue, such polarity is becoming a major characteristic of modern Britain, while civility and respect evaporate

Becoming PM isn't the only motivation for a figure like Braverman. We live in an attention economy, and being regarded as the leading representative of a certain strand of opinion brings lots of benefits. There's political influence (look at how much Farage was able to shape UK politics and the platform of the governing Tory party without ever having a single MP elected to Parliament. With the evolution of the Conservative party to a more radical, nationalist, authoritarian platform it's likely it will represent a smaller coalition of voters nationally - a process which is much broader than the work of Braverman or any individual politician - so it's logical that people are readying themselves to be the leader of that party with maybe ~25-30% of the population supporting it, or indeed being in prime position if we end up with proportional representation and likely formal splits between liberal-minded centre-right and more authoritarian, populist wings. Beyond that, the attention economy gives lots of opportunities to its leading players outside of elected politics, not least in the media (where there are particularly many well paying gigs for those with provocative right-wing views).

Re: attention economy.

If you want a laugh check out this Twitter/X feed. It's the leader of the Tories in Wales - https://twitter.com/AndrewRTDavies

He's not credible any more so just posts stuff for attention. Lining himself up for something no doubt.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it's clear why I highlighted that.

I'm not too bothered about people using hyperbolic language to express their rage at the corruption, cynical divisiveness and overt bigotry of the people who are running our country. I believe the disgust is justified and natural. I tend to prefer to express it in a different way, but I don't particularly see the harm of expletives or gallows humour on an internet forum like this.

You seem to fixate much more than I do on policing the language and politeness of those expressions of disgust, while you seem much less concerned about political speech *by our government* which whips up fascists, gaslights and divides communities - I guess on the basis that they don't use taboo words when they do it.

Jacob Rees-Mogg is a great example of what I'm talking about. He's known for being assiduously courteous in his tone - and sometimes he says things that are profoundly dishonest. He has lied to us on many occasions in that polite and soothing voice. For me, that is incredibly offensive speech, and far more damaging to our political discourse than using a term of abuse.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure what her parents being from India has to do with anything?

Her mother was a Tory councillor and ran to become an MP.

Her husband is Jewish and an Israeli, they actually lived in Israel and have family members fighting in the IDF.

Her views are hardly striking because her parents were immigrants, and her mother, an NHS nurse, would qualify under any immigration policy Braverman supports.

She makes sensationalist headlines and deserved to be fired, but let's not pretend she came from a downtrodden background and has forgotten her roots just because she's not white.

The PMs were all standard procedure, I'm sure Brown succeeded Blair in a similar scenario.

At least Truss was voted for by Tory members though.

So what? She wasn't voted in by the electorate. That is what's supposed to happen in a "democracy"

What's less acceptable is successors who have become PM going against manifesto commitments on the basis of which the electoral mandate was given to the Conservative party.
