WI made 176. Not a huge total. Buttler gone for 5. England 51-1 after 6 overs.
This is absolute poverty atm...
Yet another defeat for England.
Harry Brook should just be a test player for now.
It's been a strange decline for this white ball side. However by the time the actual t20 world cup comes around, we may pull ourselves together. Curran was obviously player of the tournament last year so I think it's right that we persist with him. He obviously came off with the bat at 4 but Brook should be batting there at least and no lower. Rehan Ahmed shouldn't be batting at 9 either.
Salt feels like early Jason Roy to me, hopefully he can kick on and have a similar impact to what JRoy had once he was settled.
Will Brook become a top T20 player? Will Crawley? Will some of the old stagers be brought back?
Brook certainly has the tools, the game and the mindset to be a 3 format player for us. I'd make him our number 4 for ODI and T20 as he will be Root's successor at 4 in the test side I'm sure.
If Crawley could replace Malan's consistency with scoring runs then he could be a success as I think his bstting tempo would be perfect to anchor the side but he isn't consistent enough.
England win by 7 wickets with Salt making a ton!
Amazing chase! Hopefully the innings that makes Salt feel like he deserves to be opening the batting for England in the shortest format and match defining knocks become more common from him.
Unbelievable from Brook too, I'd still like him at 4 but maybe they're trying to put more responsibility on Livingstone.
The bowling is still a concern but it was going into the last t20 world cup before Curran stepped up. Hopefully he can do so again as the talent and mindset are there.
Feels like the best we've seen from Brook with the bat for a long time...

You’re forgetting Bairstow will come back into the side.
I'm hoping when Bairstow/Malan come back it's to replace a bowler.
No idea why we feel we need 7 bowlers in a T20, and we actually had 8 on the field given Jacks didn't bowl.
I mean what's the point in Mills if you're only going to bowl him for 2 overs, surely an extra batsman would benefit the side more.

I think Salt will keep his place if he continues to do well. Personally I'd consider bringing Malan into the side for the world cup to bat 3 but I wouldn't bring in Bairstow.
I doubt the selectors will think that way. Let’s hope Salt keeps his place and Bairstow will have to bat at 3.

should do if he's worth his salt
Salt should be one of the first names on the team sheet for both white ball sides as he's basically Roy v2.
He's not as good as Roy yet but he's fantastic at setting the tone and getting the team off to a good start.
We missed that player at the world cup.

Bairstow had been batting at like 4 hadn't he when he last played. I know Salt batted 3 at the last WC cos Jonny was injured and there will be no Hales either.
Salt and Buttler open together for Lancashire and Manchester Originals so it feels like a partnership that they should stick with.
Yeah sorry I should have clarified I meant with regard to your point about Malan and Bairstow. Salt and Buttler opening looks like the way we’ll go to open. Get the impression Malan will be done with England now, which is a shame as I think he’s more valuable to England for the upcoming World Cup than Bairstow - as destructive as Jonny can be, he’s not looked as good as Malan in the t20 side and is more impressive in ODI and now Test cricket. But Bairstow is a selector favourite so I suspect he’ll be there in the summer.
Suspect we’ll build the batting around those three, Brook and Livingstone, fitness permitting.

quite a condiment....
If this guy isn’t opening with Phil Salt for England one day then I just give up.

Haha! About 5 years ago I remember talking about the amazing potential of Salt and Pepper opening together. Michael Pepper is a T20 specialist so it could happen when Buttler retires
Could happen in the Hundred one day, if not for England.
Back to back centuries for Salt.
Beat Hales’ record in 54 balls.
