He's doing brilliantly at Villa but I wonder if language was a major issue when he was with us.
I just watched a clip with the current Villa captain talking about how intense, meticulous and knowledgeable Emery is but he also mentioned there's a language barrier even now.
I remember watching his early press conferences when he arrived at Arsenal and there was no way he was getting over anything of note in English without a translator which would seriously diminish the impact of anything he said.
Think he's much improved now so it's a bit different.
Yeah his English is light years better now
Even in that season with Arsenal he still bettered Wenger the season before with more points and a better finishing position.
He's been at 9 different clubs, all of various sizes and varying degrees of form before him arriving and he has arguably never done a bad job at any of them. That's impressive enough by itself.
He would have been fine with enough time.
Yeah he’s better than Lego head
I don't think so, the players completely stopped trying for him.
There is no expectation at Villa whereas he was under pressure to get results at Arsenal and PSG. That's the difference!
No, Arsenal were in a limbo at the top and had no idea of strategy to implement. Emery from sounds of it didn’t get the support he wanted (besides transfers), players didn’t respect him all that much so it wasn’t a good mat h at all.
Considering how long the Arsenal board have given Arteta (and Wenger actually), not giving a f*ck what the fans thought along the way, it's very believable to think the players had a serious problem with him & thus his position was untenable.
I think we may have won a Europa had he had more time
Emery missed out to clean the dressing room from the bad apples.
I would say yes for surer. No doubting he is a good good manager
Hindsight’s a wonderful thing. It just wasn’t working for him at Arsenal like it didn’t work at PSG. He couldn’t handle big egos and his English wasn’t good enough at the time.
People forget how a mess the club has been for years, even from the Wenger days, it was toxic and had cliches, people leaking things to the press, indiscipline, etc. Arteta cleared that up and just bought a great culture to the club and bought us fans closer to the club also.
Emery just isn't that sort of manager or character
If Emery came into the club today, then he would do well, but we were right to let him go when we did.
