Does Armstrong not get most of his assists/chances from set pieces? Not the quality that we need to improve. Maybe improves on Wright, yet doubt he’d pop up with same quality Wright has at Hampden. Would want a new RW and McAusland backup
----------------------------------------------------------------------
but we have to do so with a budget in mind IMO. We need a CM, a RM, and a CF as a bare minimum in the winter window. Would I get Armstrong if I had 3m to spend no. would I go get him for 500k if possible to allow us to go get other players in other positions needed, then yes I would.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s not a long term option, so even 500k isn’t worth it for me. Also not sure if that’s a realistic value. Would rather we spend what we have to improve in a couple positions properly rather than a short term option that we’d need to improve on in 6 months.
Jan is a good time for cheap loans if anything
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He would be a long term squad player IMO to fill quotas and help. And in the short term would defo feature a lot this season IMO.
he would be like a Candeias. We are in a league challenge right now and we badly need players in 3 positions and wont have a lot of money to do so IMO.
the loan market could be decent tbf for this season.
I also think we should look at loans for more expensive buys (with an option to buy) to try and remove some of the risk involved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have too many squad players. We need players to improve the first team. In terms of long term, he's 26 just now he's not a kid. He's done nothing of note in his entire career but has shown up here and there in a couple of games against the OF without really doing a great deal in terms of end product, I'm sure there are far better options out there.

outwith Sima you using a lot of impact players that come in in the latter stages of games.
He prob has more goals and assists than all of the players you mentioned above combined over the last 2 years.
Over last 2 seasons
Matondo - 7 assists - 2 goals
Mcausland - 1 assist - 2 goals
Wright - 2 assists - 1 goal
Armstrong - 16 goals - 18 assists

Majority of his goals and assists are penalties or set pieces.
He’s a good player, but he’d be a short term signing. You’ve said he’d be a squad player, no point in having both him and McAusland for that role.
Will agree to disagree. Personally think we need to get players of a better level than we have and not sure Armstrong fits that bill. He's a good player for the level he's at in my view.

You're comparing Armstrong over 2 seasons compared to McCausland who has been around for 2 months and Matondo who missed a chunk of last season with injury.
It also factors in that Armstrong takes a lot of set pieces at Killie that he wouldn't take at Rangers which discounts a number of those assists and even goals.

Fewer games, and not really a lot in it with Sakala playing at a higher level-but fair enough.
Scoring goals and putting in performances against the OF is very different than doing it for the OF.
They need to do it consistently over a sustained period rather than the odd big game here and there.
Otherwise you end up with Jordan Jones and Scott Wright type signings.
I still cant believe we signed Wright after he roasted Barisic a couple of times. Gerrard then went on to realise it doesnt actually take that much talent to do that
